I saw a set of these at JC Penny for $10:

Has anyone tried these? Are they actually practical or just a gimmick?

Along the same lines, there is also this solar-powered gadget:

Hmm depends on what you plan to use em for. The finger lights I could see being cool for light painting but thats about it. Maybe map lights. Anything that uses button cells is usually a waste of money. The solar hat on the other hand... well I would steer clear. Look into a decent headlamp instead.

I've used a button-cell caplight before. It wasn't particularly powerful but then it wasn't supposed to be; it was only intended as a close-in light to complement my higher power one. It was enough to adequately light up manhole chambers, check out stepirons, see a few metres in front of me, etc. Don't write off all button-cell lights, they do have their uses. Even though I eventually replaced it with a regular AAA cell LED headlamp, I still have it and it's a useful backup headlamp if I ever need it.

Finger lights can be pretty neat. I just noticed them at Dollarama and got a couple packs for $1/set I've only tried them once though...

I saw an LED baseball cap (battery powered) for cheap a couple months ago and bought it on impulse, but I've never used it once, because my headlamp is so much better. And my headlamp isn't all that great. Still, it might come in handy as a loaner for when I take non-drainers draining or something.
