Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knew of a dealer in california that I could purchase a M35 from?

I have found them at various online sellers for fairly affordable prices, but I am unaware of if someone has them locally (and by locally, I mean in the state)

If anyone can shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it.

Edit: I would ideally like to find one with a "radio" box on the back, rather than a canvas cargo truck, but either would do.

I don't know like "model numbers" But I know that there is an M35 out there that has whats called a radio box?? I want one of those. Year doesn't matter. it's all the same to me.

Actually, the years do matter.

The vehicle I'm getting is a 1968 M35A2. Includes: heater, soft top, troop seats, multi-fuel 465-C engine, 10k lb PTO winch, and if I'm lucky, a nice M16 gun roof mount with a shotgun cab mount.

These usually cost between $3k-8k depending on condition, style, and features.

They usually sell for $5k-12k, because of the extra equipment it comes with. You'll also be required to get a Class C Commercial license from the DMV due to it's weight (over 10,000 lbs) and size. You'll also need to register it as a commercial truck, because of the class it falls under (which can get very pricey per year).

Also with it's weight, you're limited on what highways and roads you can drive on.

The fuel it will consume is very poor. You'll get roughly 4-7 MPG, which will cost you if you plan to use it all the time.

I'm not trying to scare you off, but if you're insistent on driving one of these things, you need to do your homework first before deciding on this type of MV. It's a lot of work, responsibility, and is hard to manage and upkeep on a weekly basis. -- Storage or parking is another issue to look into. Most cities won't allow you to park it in the street (city or residential) over a certain period.

Let me correct myself when I say that year doesn't matter...

I am not so much concerned with what year it is because if the M35 that I get doesn't have a piece of equipment, or an accessory that I want, I'll simply put one on it.

I'll outline my plan for my M35 so that you have a better idea of what I'm going for here.

I want to buy an M35 and turn it into a sort of, well, for lack of a better term "Military RV" (Maintaining the military look) I want one with a radio box so that I can gut the radio box, do a simple radio setup, a little bed (or area to lay out a sleeping bag) a small stove area and possibly latrine.. Essentially a small camper of sorts.

Storage, Maintenance etc. are non-issues for me, as both my father, and myself have experience as mechanics, my dad having diesel and heavy truck experience specifically, so I wouldn't have to worry about doing maintenance, and also wouldn't have to worry about parking as my parents have plenty of room at their property and that would be where I would park it. I did do some investigation about the commercial license thing, and that shouldn't be too hard to attain, just got to start studying up for it.

After doing a bit more investigating, however, I am thinking that it may be cheapest to buy a flatbed M35 and build my "box" to suit. add the doors, walls, windows, and antennas myself. I have the plasma cutter, welder and all to do this, the radio box option just seemed so RTR.

I understand that these aren't cheap to register and run, but hey, thats part of having one of these. If you buy one of these and think it's gonna be cheap like running a honda or something well.....

Anyways Rail, I look forward to chatting with you about these, as you seem to be pretty well up to snuff on them, and Swiffer, yes, we will have to go up there to see this place.. Looks like a good road trip.

Those radio boxes look dangerously tall. If you buy a flatbed, you could build your own possibly with lighter materials and give yourself enough knee crawling space.

You Rock man! I was able to take those dimensions, put them into Omnigraffle, and make a layout of what I could make one of these into..

I have taken real dimensions of stoves, sinks, and refrigerators that you can purchase for RV's. I have taken the dimensions of the flat bed, and found that a nice camper can be made pretty easily!

The Green rectangle is a 2' wide door, the blue rectangles are 2' wide windows.

The Counter is 2' deep by 6.5' long, and the bed is like 4-4.5'wide x 6.5'long

The comm centre is 2' x 2' square. sourcing the refrigerator, stove, and things to build the inside will probably cost me around 2500-3000 which will make it a pretty nice RV.

This is by no means a "final draft" but merely an idea showing the possibilities. I also plan to add a generator, and potable water tank.

Let me know what you think... I think it will look pretty cool.

I think that if everything is physically bolted/strapped down, and it has the same colors as the truck, then it'll be fine.

No way would you see something like that POS on there! I would be building my own box on the back of these.

On the inside, it would look like a RV, but on the outside, I would try to make it look as much like a standard MV as possible.. Man, I think it would look/work pretty well....
