What, no Peterbilts at your neighborhood VW dealer?
Srysly, I never even knew they had an 8.1 liter in the Suburban. The update of the 6.6 diesel? My high mileage 95 gas 5.7 (350 ci) Tahoe did great on a recent 4000 mile trip to Aspen Colorado. Used one quart of oil. Never missed a beat even over Independence Pass. Decent highway mileage, and sleeping in the back offsets the mileage, means we can skip the motels for a few days, or camp in better weather.
I had an old fashioned blowout on I5 near Portland. With the stiff tires, light load, there was no rim damage, could have kept driving, but the steering was a bit soft, and it's best to keep up on the 5.
Large SUV's are fun. Even at 6 feet, I put the cruise on, and can totally stretch my legs out. Minivans are great, but for 20% less mileage will stick with the SUV for a while. Still, your best accessory is a bike or a bus pass
Like Big Dave says, save it for weekends, UE, and stuff unless you own an oil well. Happy Trails.
And you neighbors daughter needs some drivers ed, glad you are okay.
