...Maybe you will know. Ok as should be obvious I'm a Jeep guy. On that note one of my fav jeeps is the Grand Wagoneer (woodgrain an all) I have owned several and yeah the amc 360 and chrysler tranny are pretty much bullet proof. I want to build me a nice daily driver but a search on my idea hasn't turned up much. I can get a 98 Tahoe with the 350 and OD trans (4L80e?) For $600. It has 68000 miles and runs and drives perfect. The body is trashed (roll over) so I'm just seeking the drivetrain. I come across clean wagoneer bodies all day long with blown motors (put oil in them people, dammit) and of course the question is: how hard do yall think it will be to put this drivetrain in the waggy. Physically I'm not concerned and the waggy axles will be fine (dana 44 FTW) but I want to retain the fuel injection and computer (and that od tranny) so I can take it from 11mpg to closer to 18mpg. Plus the reliability of EFI and uses the better AC compressor on the chrysler system. Ideas, thoughts? Sam GM is your alter, any ideas?

If the transfer case drops on the same side where the driveshaft bolts to the axle, you will be fine using adapters and new mounts to perform the swap. A Wagoneer with a SBC is a fine thing. I almost bought one already finished about a year ago, but my lady used the money to buy turbo crap for her 300zx TT.

PS, i dont see how Sam can help you much in this department, lol.

I thought worst case I would have to use an advance adapter for the t-case. I thought Sam was a pretty solid GM guy. Didn't know if his knowledge stopped at FWD or not. This isn't gonna be a off road toy, just a cross country cuiser all weather capable (maybe a small lift to clear 31s without trimin the fenders). I'm more worried about adapting modern sensors to older guages. I could get a digital dash but honestly, I hate em. I have a feeling this will be a long project ( I will have about 2 days a month to wrench on it, OTR driver). But that gives me time to research and line up my next move everyday. Lol I think I bit off a bit in this project.

Thanks Skelly. And btw Sam those early Broncos were pretty sweet. A buddy of mine had a 72 half cab with a 302 and 3 on the tree. Fun rides for sure.

4L80E was installed in 3/4 ton and above, half tons got the 4L60E. $600 is a great deal for a working drive train, especially since its a vortec 350. If its a 3/4 ton it most likely will be 4 bolt mains as well. You would probably have to swap over all the FI stuff including the in-tank pump and what not. Should be simple otherwise.

Yeah its a 1/2 ton so the 60e is most likely the trans. I may be able to pick it up cheaper than that. I was gonna buy it before it got wrecked but his daughter decided to drive it one last time and, well, now its good for parts. I can pick up a clean waggy body for $500 all day so I figure that I can come out less than $3000 for all the major pieces plus all the nickle and dime shit.
