| | | disappointed by the gay ass piece of shit taillight covers available for my Cobalt, a friend of mine talked me into trying this stuff he picked up. It's called "Nite Shades" and its made by VHT. I was leery because if I didn't like it, I would have to buy new taillights for my car. Anyways, the stuff is a spray-on, paint-like tint for taillights, signal lights, etc... Rudy painted his Grand Prix taillights first and I liked the way it looked, despite the fact he had a huge run and a big fingerprint in his (it takes a bit for this to dry it seems). So Tuesday night, I popped the taillights and reverse lights out of my Cobalt and we painted them. I must say, even though I didn't clearcoat them, I was very impressed with the look. It definitely gives the car a much cooler, cleaner look in the back. The Cobalt has always had the reputation of having a fat ass and the taillights always were like the pimples on that fat ass, but this stuff seems to work as promised. I may take them out and clear them before the car is finally put away for the season. I'd have gotten pictures, but it seems to be the monsoon season here in northern New York... so, maybe next week.

| | | Posted by Switch_ Don't use nightshade. The clearcoat that you put on it will wear off and then you'll be stuck with the same dull black tail lights as everyone else. If you want to do it right, have a shop spray it with black paint mixed with clearcoat. It'll look like these http://i19.photobu...ullitt/bullitt.jpg It looks 100x better than VHT.
| What he said. Niteshades fades to nothing after a few years due to UV. I did a pair with Testors "Dark Plastic Window Tint" and some auto clearcoat, came out pretty good but I think from now on I will have a shop do them. It's just clear with a few drops of black in it, gives a nice very dark red appearance and the lights still illuminate the same. Personally I think it's SAFER this way, a lot of the time when you have red taillights, depending on the sun angle you can't see them light up very well due to the design of the plastic, etc. With a taillight going from really dark red to lit up bright red, I think the wider spectrum grabs attention. Note, If the reflectors don't light up well when a headlight hits them the cops will give you trouble.
