Wasted car stories. I have a few but here is a couple (one may break Sams heart).

I was in auto mech at vocational school in HS. We had cars donated to us from GM and Ford sometimes. When I got there we had a 90's (not sure) red cavalier Z24 convertable. Auto with 2.8. It was shipping damaged. Driver quarter was wrinkled. It was donated when new. Had those square odd rims on it. Digital dash said 28 miles. The sad part was we didn't even get to work on it. It was what the principle had towed around on a trailer for the parade every year. My last year there we got a new show piece ( new S-10 in 97 ). The teacher had us clean house at the end of the year. So the drivetrain was yanked from the Z24 and we cut it up with a tourch. Sad day.

The other is close to my house. Older guy has 2 57 and a 56 an 55 chevy Nomads in a lean to behind his house. You can see em from the road. Won't sell and now has went as far as walling them in so people will quit asking. You can still see em thru the cracks.

Anyone else got any sad stories of waste?

i attended a US DOL Job Corps program in Vergennes VT back in 1994-95 (the very same one i worked at later on)... anyways, we had a 1987 Chevy Celebrity donated. It was fully loaded, MPFI 2.8L... nice car. We cut it up with a torch. Had a nice 91 GMC Jimmy, fell off a car carrier... yanked the drivetrain out of that.

oh the horror of the cars that were murdered.

I used know a mechanic who told me that when he was young he got a hold of an old worn out car that after awhile they decided was no longer worth the trouble.

Since several of his buddies and their dads were working on construction of I-275 at the time they decided that it would be a fitting end for it to become a permanent part of the US highway system. It was used as fill for the base of a ramp near the I-275/Loveland interchange.

It was a 1958 Eldorado Brougham.

The look on my face must have prompted him to say, "I know, I know, I feel the same way now too, but at the time it was just an old kinda beaten car."

i dont know what the laws were back then but i went to a school like that too and we got all kinds of cars but they could never be titled or registered once the school was done with them due to liability so thats probly why they had you cut it up

a guy i used to work for at the railroad said he saw an entire train load of brand new cadillacs go to the crusher back in the 70's because the train carrying them derailed and they had to do it for liability, even the cars with no visible damage got scrapped

Honda used to donate to my high school back in the 90's. I remember always taking my lunchbreak in an Accord Wagon.

We had a '92 Tracker, a '92 Lumina Euro and an '89 Omni in my high school auto shop. The Omni coulda used a fender... but was perfect other than that and had 7 miles on it. In grade 12 I chopped the front clip off so it'd take up less space in the shop and could still be worked on.

Mitsubishi also gave my old shop 5 cars - 3 Lancer GTS's and 2 Lancer Evolution X's.... on the condition the actual car is destroyed. I wanted to CRY. The three Lancers had some very minor damage from being in a truck accident, and the Evos were PERFECT... they we just press cars. Sadly, nothing escaped the parting out or sawzall. (Although everything has pretty much gone to use on ACP's rally cars)

I was doing some work with Trades and Apprenticeship Board in Ontario for auto mechanics. Toyota donated a Corolla and a Matrix brand new off the line to be used in the shop, Challenger Motor Freight gave a couple of transports and the City of Guelph a bus or two.

Next to a barn behind an abandoned farm house not far from here there are 2 abandoned '57 Chevys...I don't think they're actually Bel-Airs, probably 150s or 210s, but still. The barns and property are still used though.

Back in the country past where I live, a guy has two Dusters, one of them looks like he parked it one day when it was new and just left it...Still has the sun-blocker thing hanging up in the windshield. I think that one's a 340. He refuses to sell.

Further down the road from that guy, there's one who has his own personal junkyard, dozens of cars, but the memorable ones are: '69 Dodge Coronet, Coronet R/T, and Super Bee, a '69 Plymouth Satellite and Road Runner, two early '70s Camaros, one a Z/28. Recently he's started adding just junk to his collection though, it used to be all old muscle cars, but now he's got a 90's Crown Vic and a few Suburbans.

And supposedly between the last two there's a guy who lives up on a hill back a private road who has a field full of Mopars.

I pass a house pretty much weekly that has a '63 Bug in the driveway. I've been asking about it for 10 years now, and 10 years ago it was a pretty decent car.

my highschool was so weak. my 2nd year there they got rid of the auto program and turned the old garage into a computer lab / under-equipped film studio. All they left was a shitty wood shop and a paint booth with no ventilation fan.

Far as wasted beauties go, Im always upset when I go to my friend jeff's house and see the mostly un-restored 1970 GTO Judge his dad hasnt worked on in almost a decade. They're both too lazy / busy to do anything with it so it just sits out there covered...he doesnt even put a better tarp on in the winter.
My uncle also has a *mint* (visually anyway) 1984 mercedes 380SL convertible sitting in a storage unit somewhere that he left after leaving canada like 10yrs ago. Its probably got less than 500 original km on it but has been totally totally neglected. The worst part is that I dont think he even prepared the car for storage when he moved. Its been sitting there full of oil & gas & coolant for like 10yrs I bet its pretty fucked up by now.

That was the MV Cougar Ace which was originally taking Mazdas to Vancouver, BC and Tacoma, WA. What happened was that the ship got flipped over by a giant wave and some of the cars broke out of their straps and started smashing other cars. It wasn't until last year that the ship was recovered and pulled into the Port of

Portland where Mazda determined that none of the cars could be recovered and they went ahead and had them all crushed. Mazda last I saw had a list of VINs from this ship.

Interesting. I was going to say this was the sinking of the Vanlene off the West Coast of Vancouver Island in 1972. That freighter was carrying Dodge Colts, They brought in helicopters to pull the cars off before it sank.

We boarded the small remaining part of the ship that was above water about a year after it grounded. I would have been 15, my brother 13. Very creepy, looking down those flooded tipped hallways. There was not much above the water to explore. A year or so later it totally sunk.

The West Coast of Vancouver Island is called the Graveyard of the Pacific for a reason.

A quick search reveals a bad link, but some photos:

http://www.priaout...ing-book-82-83.pdf

14, 1972, when a giant freighter, the Vanlene,
ran aground near Austin Island. The ship was
carrying 300 Dodge Colt automobiles en
route to Vancouver from Japan.
The crew members (from Honk Kong) all
survived, but they were not able to save the
ship. They sent out a Mayday call erroneously
reporting they were off the coast of
Washington state. Search-and-rescue teams
took a long time to find the Vanlene due to
the wildly inaccurate position report. The
vessel was finally located, but despite the
involvement of several rescue vessels the
Vanlene could not be saved. Her captain had
apparently lost his way, and investigators
found that all navigation instruments on the
ageing vessel were non-functioning. The
captain had navigated across the Pacific with
just an ordinary compass!

Local junkyard owner's got two Fieros sitting in the back and he wants an arm and a leg for both. Will only sell them together, both non-running, weeds growing through the rims, paint distorted on one that's had water dripping on the hood for years. He won't part them out either.

This same guy also had a 87 Fiero coupe and let it sit for 3 years without letting people take parts before crushing it. Wanted $5000 for the whole car.

In 1975 I purchased a 1954 ford shorty pickup for $400.00. Spent a lot of time and what little money I had rebuilding it and getting it ready for the road.

I was still driving that truck in 1977 when a couple of twin brothers move into town and show up for the new school year. As soon as these boys got their licenses, pops goes out and buys them both Panteras!!!!

Yeah you read that correctly, one yellow one red, the most awesome sounding cars I had ever heard.

Well I don't know what dad did for a living, but he sure was a stupid shit!!!

The red one lasted 5 months, it ran out of oil.
The yellow one lasted 9 months, it was wrecked on a rain slicked road.

What a waste!!!!!

Ouch!

That reminds me of my best friend's fiancee... she's a fat, useless whore.

Anyhow... I drove a super ghetto '74 Bug in high school. Her daddy bought her a brand new Sunfire GT (with leather, which I've never seen). One day it had a flat tire, and I overheard her on her cell phone calling her dad an asshole, a piece of shit, and asking him why he bought her such a piece of shit car.

I seriously hope the bitch croaks before my friend gets the chance to marry her next summer.
