Where is everyone?
anyway i did about 3 new drains the other day and completed none, sort of.
Paramatta:
when walked into the drain and there was a bit of water which steadily got deeper, we were walking on the sides of the drain. Then my mate says look an theres an eel swimming around and a couple of fish there too. So we named it
Paramatta (sporting team reference para eels
) we decided 2 turn back because we didn't water gumboots.
2nd one:
this drain leads into Paramatta but had little water in it. Inside the entrance there was unopened food along with a can opener and this started my slight worrying about who/what we might find within. We come 2 a point where the drain splits into two and at that point there is a few dead palm fronds, cause i only had a small torch and cause i was slightly on edge i was pretty startled and thought they were bodies
even when my friend walked over them i was like "Jobann what r they?" (He's Jobann and I'm Roger, they are our elite draining names). Just beyond the fronds at the junction we found some silt with footprints in it, small bare childs feet and adult feet with shoes. we both were a bit more cautious then. The RCP turned into a square drain with bricked up sides, further on the drain turned into really old looking red brick walls, but for only about 10-15m. Then we got out.
Where the drain opens up we could've gone further but the pipe went 2 about 1.5m dia and had about 10-20cm of mud and rotting mangoes in it so we decided 2 get out.
Last drain:
1.8m RCP it wasn't a bad walk but about 15mins (running speed) into the drain we found a dam made of branches and organic matter about 30-40 cm high so we decided 2 come back later and slowly pull the dam down so we can walk through it without getting wet. We haven't yet.
Also we found two 1.8m RCP and a small 1.5m pipe we could access but only with the help of a jack cause there are big sliding grates sitting on top.
We didn't realise they slide cause we were trying to undo the nuts which attached them 2 the side of the calvert nd i was pulling cause the thread felt stripped and the grate moved, then we realised it slid up and down.
Time wasted half an hour
but were hopefully going there soon with a jack
They are my explorations so far, what about yours?
