I saw this in my crappy tire flyer this week, although I didn't find one in the store I went to today. Anyone used it? I'm not sure how bright it is, but for $9.99 it probably is better then the black eliminator one they had a while back.

anyone using one?

I often wonder how well those kind of lights work for light painting...

I have another model like that, its pretty good for a general task light (light up the area in front and around the immediate area.

Mine did not have the leds on the end thou.

Batteries in the one I had last forever. (at least seems like it)

Makes me almost want to walk into Canadian Tire again. (long story)

The black Eliminator one is a disappointing piece of crap. This one looks better.

The problem with these, is that they're generally just long stick flashlights. They don't actually flood light, but merely focus it into a beam.. a dim, useless beam. Observe:

The light on the left is that model's younger, possibly retarded brother. For $10, it's a good deal, but don't expect any practicality when using them.

Hmm, doesn't really appeal so much, now

Do they have any good uses at all?

Ds had some shots up with a led stick he had while ago. If I remember right it had like 120 led's on it, so it obviously would be brighter. He seemed to use it well, but I don't think the light lasted long.

Rob, the eliminator was particulary bad.

What exactly did you use here?

Hmm, from memory I used a dildo-equipped light from behind the camera for foreground, dildo-equippped gelled lights sitting in rubber stoppers for the middle ground, and I'm holding one of those X2000 focusing things behind me and in front of me (there are two frames combined, there)

I do this trick frequently. It's a secret, but it's how I got this picture at MAMU2. It's a composite of 4 exposures because some people are a pain to illuminate in the same shot.

The only thing I ever really found it useful for was the fact that it gave a very daylight balanced cast. But they are definitely more of a directional light than a fill. The best use I found for it was in narrow spaces, manhole shafts etc, where the more directional nature wasn't so obvious.

The only pic I have by way of example is a couple years old.

Left hand passage way being light stick lit. Even there you see the hotspot on the right, and directing the focus out of shot reduces the available light to all but unusable without resorting to bracketing and blending shots.

It's been consigned to the ever growing 'tried it, didn't like it' pile.

What everybody else already said. Very directional, dim, pretty much useless. I used one as fill on the wheelchair in this shot, lit the rest with a normal 2 million candlepower spotlight. It was the first (and probably the last) time I used one.

air: did you buy one of the white 24-LED ring lights? those things are shockingly useful...I started out with one and now own like 6 or 7 of them. 4 batteries a piece, but they're small, throw a pretty good flood of light and at $5 a pop, are easily disposable.
The blue you posted a link to is probably OK...but like others have said, fairly directional and not a lot of flood.

Yeah its a white dodgy looking thing that comes with some type of little triangle hook?I went past a bin of them a few months ago....glad I didn't listen to my first judgment (!) -- they are amazing. I've been waiting for more of them to go on sale.

I also use these LED disks from the dollar store, those are $2 each and take aaa's and I have about 15 of them. Cheap LED's FTW!

BTW did you ever check if your B=D light can be opened and if the contacts for the power on the battery are removable? If they are, then the battery can be swapped out. My garrity which I used twice isn't doing to well..

That said I don't need the fluro anymore and have 2 batteries for it and an extra tube incase this one busts. Any local want it, PM me for more info.

been holding onto a bayco that I dropped underwater and had rusted up inside. I took it apart, cleaned off all the rust but it never worked...mistook it for my sole functioning one the other day and now it looks like the thing kind of works again, I just think it needs a new bulb.

I'd take the extra bulb off your hands....how much you want for it?
