Pretty sure it's more than that... good luck ever seeing them get on an open enough stretch to do it though. Possibly between Hamilton/Niagara Falls.

I know the Maple Leaf has done 90 a few times after Aldershot. The trick is that the VIA engineer has to disable a few things with the stipulation when its returned to Amtrak the next day, it must be in working order.

The wads have 83mph gearing, and passenger speeds are max of 80mph on many lines. I've been in the cab car watching one hit 78 going through Malton, but that was with an F59 shoving on the rear.

And of course, there are stories from the good ol' days of them hitting 90+ in certain stretches (hilly portion of the CP Milton line comes to mind).

VIA's can go 100mph in some areas of the Kingston/Oakville Subs.

Keep it fuzzy.

Once PTC comes on line, things should speed up a bit. I have been on CPR trains at 75 MPH...no joke.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!
