Torch related exploring item.

Definitely worth trialling.

It's very often the case that I can't find a spot to hitch up or balance a torch for a drain shot, without risk of it rolling into the water. Of course that's fine with current torch waterproof ratings etc, but I'd rather not be chasing my torch down a fast flowing river of poo to see its dim light washed away in to the distance.

Enter the Ortec Torch Suction Mount!



Got to be worth a try. It looks pretty small, I imagine even on bricks it should do the job, especially considering the places I'll need to use it are most always perpetually moist! Sounds a bit wrong.

I'm not too sure that'll work in your favour underground. Suction cups like those generally need very flat, clean surfaces to properly grip and hold. Unless the brick you're in are non porous, it won't grip. Mind you, with the marvels in London, I wouldn't be too surprised if you discovered glass.

I have a bunch of cheap tripods I've been thinking of duck taping lights to. This is better.

Yeah, the Mechanno-pod is cool My issue is that I want something small that's going to be way out of the reach of water, to be placed in a spot where there is no spot as such to place a smaller tripod style stand. If it came to taking another tripod then I'd probably stick with my current make do option as I'm not keen to take anything bigger than fist sized.

I think that if the suction one is small enough that it might be up to the job on brick or concrete for the short periods of time I need it for . . though I guess that depends quite largely on the strength of the suction cup. Stoop's camera mount suction cup did ok on a wall the other week, but it is massive and could probably lift my car i attached to a crane . . .

With the hairstyle I'm currently sporting (read, none) it would work very well as an impromptu head torch.

Yeah. My problem is that quite often there's nothing but a vertical wall to affix on to. A full size tripod adapted to mount a torch would work good as it can stand in most water flows fine, but that's just too big. A gorillapod type affair is just going to get washed away though. When there's any protrusion sufficient to clip something on to then it's usually equally so sufficient to hang a torch from. So I'm keen to find something small and effective for the task.

Try one of these. It is a $9 tripod I got @ Wall Mart. The legs are 48" extended & it's not to much bigger than my 2AA mini mag when folded up. I also have this nit-eyes flashlight friend. The legs are fully pose-able. Together you should be able to come up with something.
