Abandoned railroad buildings

I was recently shown several abandoned buildings, and block towers that are in an unused area of the Decoursey rail yards in Latonia, Ky.

I checked them out the other day, and they are a great place for pictures. Since the buildings in that part of the rail yard are abandoned (the tracks ARE active though), there did not appear to be any guards in that area. One warning though, it did look like a group of homeless people had been there recently, so you may want to take along a person or two. I have posted several areal views of some of the highlights. This place is worth checking out.

PM me if you would like more info.

The steel stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the tower are on the outside of the building, and were removed from the ground up to about 7 or 8 feet. The remaining stairs are still solid though.

This IS accessable when the river is not flooded.

The collapsed building had burned down at some point, but the remnant still was cool to shoot.

Around here, they have stiffed up on security around rail roads. Conductors will call in if they notice anyone snooping around. Then again, its not to hard to tell when a train is coming......

Some crews might. Others are able to use common sense. I had a conductor who wanted to call in a guy with a camera when we were switching once. I told him to relax, the guy was just a train nut. If you use common sense, most of them will too. I've worked for the RR for long enough to recognize alot of who's up to something and who's not.

On the other hand, I did have a run in with RR police at the DeCoursey location when it was first abandoned around 1987. All it amounted to was 'don't come back'.
