Oh Nostra, Apparently Mr. Ricardo Montabon did a ad in Quebec in FRENCH I am trying to track down. It was for a different car though.

I agree. His ideas got America thinking about Domestics again!

And look at the legacy of the K-car! It goes pretty much until 1994!

it wasn't a really great car, but did it ever take a beating.
It was like so many other unsung domestic FWD shitboxes out there that got the American auto industry back on its feet:

cheap to buy
cheap to drive
cheap to maintain
rugged
sort of fun to drive

Part Two: The Heartbeat of America

I decided to instead jump to GM instead of Remault/AMC.

GM was having a mini resurgence as well due to the American product pride kick going on. GM created a new jingle for Chevrolet, the heartbeat of America to emphasize that.

http://www.youtube...atch?v=E4x0NLpM2tE

There's multiple variations of this theme, but they all are slick.

GM always could also for the other brands, write up a very specific jingle for the ads. The next few ones explain this:

"Like a Ccupe"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=rAesYQnXQQI

"The Finer Things"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=YqYuZMxmO0w

"From Oregon to Maine"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=tzy-dKfUpO4
This ad kills me because they have the car next to a steam train!

"Here and Wow"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=54TFiAaKjOo
(this is actually a regional ad created by GM)

Then sometimes, you just need a special ad for a special car

"Never seen anything...like this....BEFORE"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=CP7ijUkgc-4

"Yes, its a CHEVY"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=vPaS_5Kz2UA

"Living in a heart beat!"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=rAesYQnXQQI

"One of the 12 Best Enthusiast Cars"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=Lv9-QPg01yI
Here, we have Don LaFontaine doing the voice over

"WE...BUILD...EXCITEMENT"
http://www.youtube...Rk&feature=related
Ooo...its the mid 80s and we just discovered computer generated graphics!

"Imported from America"
http://www.youtube...atch?v=nAFEN8Af7NE
Very odd commerical for the Nova

Just for Samarui, here is the commerical introudcing the Beretta:

http://www.youtube...atch?v=gQwPP9HV-mw

Now since the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver are coming up, here's a look back at the last time Canada hosted the Olympics back in 1988:

NUMMI
San Jose, Ca.
it was a Corolla with a bowtie.

As for the Beretta ad, that was such a weird ad campaign... for 1988, though, the Beretta did have clean lines.
I think it's still pretty sweet now that everything looks like a jellybean

I love that Audi ad...

Also, I will forever have a soft spot for the Nova-rolla, it's the first standard car I ever drove on the road. My friend Nova still drives one (Yes, her name is Nova and she drives a Nova), that little fucker has to have a million km on it. She named him Timmy.

Oh jeez.

I found out that GM is once again the Official Provider of Cars to the Vancouver 2010 Games and they will be bringing their new hydrogen-cell Chevy Equinox for all fleet use.
