Anybody other than me and a couple others get their paws on this one yet? It comes out into open release tomorrow, but they've given lots of opportunities in the past two or three weeks to play and try it without buying a copy of it.

The big draw for me...for 229 bucks for a lifetime subscription and the cost of the box, the only thing I have to pay for again is expansion packs, which look like they'll be the same frequency as WoW, one every year or two.

The lifetime thing is a gamble, but it pays for itself in about a year and a half. Even Cryptic's other somewhat known game, Champions Online, has been around that long.

Anyway, it seems like they have so much they'd love to do with it and the support of Paramount behind it, with Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto both doing voices for the game. It has incredible potential, so far.

Lifetime subscriptions sound good. I took a look at this and applied for the beta.

Other than that I don't know to much about it.

I was in the open and in the test before opening day, as well as the headstart.

It was worth it and still is. I can log in, play for an hour or two and log out. Unlike WoW.

I don't know what a lifetime sub costs now, but it's more than 229 dollars, sadly. Somewhere around 299-300 that I've heard. I bought my sub before opening day, so they had a break on it.

Most of my friends play, I'm trying to work on a KE borg character in addition to my Federation characters. You can't play the borg character unless you bought the lifetime sub before opening day. They also have nice little addons you can buy extra too, also they give away some nifty little character addons and costumes from time to time.

Also, you can breed tribbles by feeding them different stuff.

I'm wondering how well this game made it - did you keep playing it or did it grow old quickly? I was tempted to jump on board late (as I did for WoW, it was out for years before I started playing)and was told it lost steam pretty quickly.

It was fun...for about a month.

I lost interest after I hit max level and realized it's just the same old missions over and over and over and over again.

I ended up going back to WoW. I still have so much to do there with the guild I'm in and the achievements and instances I missed...so I went back. Also my friends did too.

I go log into STO when they patch or when I'm bored or don't have time to do much, just to see what's new, play for a bit and then go off and do something else.

At least with a lifetime membership if they ever do a giant overhaul of the thing you're right in the middle of it, right? One can hope.
I'm considering trying it for a few months (once I have some money :p)

Yup. I never have to pay monthly again. All I might have to do is buy an expansion pack, which isn't a huge deal.
