Check here: www.lockpicking101.com

I am not posting this to take away from the chat here- I just want to provide the link once and for all.

And yes, you can bribe certain moderators on that forum from what I hear.. lol .

Do me and the other members a favor if you do come check out the site.

I have had about 10 people from here join and notify me in some way they are from here. Most are being nice about it, some are lightly joking around over there. (which is fine as well)

Than, I also have total idiots expecting handouts posting they were "told" here to join that site. (more than two people)

I am not telling anyone to join, I only posted that site as some of you have a genuine interest in lockpicking. The site listed above is a HOBBY site, not a "we help you break into stuff" site, or a "free handout" site.

Please keep that in mind. There is a bit more maturity there, than there is on this forum. And, just like this forum, there is a "advanced/full member" only access area as well. Try to keep that in mind.

If you are going to be a twit and want to join the forum I listed above- Don't. Just lurk and read information.

that site has been around for a long time, im surprised anyone who has ever even typed the word lockpick into google hasn't got it straight away.

that said, advertising it on a board full of wannabe lock ninjas was always going to end this way with people wanting handouts.

Asking questions, participating is fine. Demanding handouts happens at times- and gets about the same response as someone demanding a handout on this forum from the other members.. And, well, being a total dick- I start seeing those lovely "report post" icons all over.. and get my banhammer out... In the end I don't really care either way...

Dunno who it was, but I have dealt with a few a while back. I posted that website cause I'm all for the free exchange of information.

Ouch. Maybe if he had posted it in the (regular) public forums, but the private board isn't that bad. Unless you think you're a ninja, in which case I won't argue with you claiming whatever label you feel properly defines yourself.

* don't feed the trolls......

just saying, this board is no less open than the public forums here....you could just hide it or restrict it.

otherwise if not then it won't be a surprise when u post forum links and a whole bunch of newbies come wanting information..

if kicking doors open with my foot makes me a lock ninja, so be it.

I found a great video on this stuff earlier today, based on the book "Visual Guide to Lockpicking". If you can get to demonoid, look it up.

It explains three of the most common types of locks inside and out in easy to understand terms.

Hell of a lot better than the lessons I got which were "Put this in here, wiggle it around and push on this thing at the same time and keep doing it till the fscker pops."

This might be an odd question...

Has anyone ever been busted for ordering picks over the internet for shipment to NY?

I was looking around on the internet and ordered a set of Southern Ordnance lockpicks, I figured it was about time I get a good set. I've been picking for probably 20 years off and on as a hobby and now I hear that there's a stupid law on the books that anybody carrying picks without a locksmith's license can be charged with a misdemeanor.

Anybody have any experience with this? Probably just my paranoia kicking in.

From what it sounds like, you can be charged if you're walking around with them on your person, but not if you have or keep them at home. But that's just my interpretation, maybe one of the locals familiar with the laws can comment?

Keep it fuzzy.

That's what I got out of it too.

The only time I even really pick outside my house is on anything that belongs to me that needs to be opened. Which I've done before at work with paperclips, hair pins, metal shavings or bits of leftover sheet metal from the machine shop and that was on locks that belong to me.

It's just irritating I live in such a stupid state where just having the things on your person because you lose your own keys a lot is considered a misdemeanor.

I don't know about the laws, but I have had lockpicks (from SouthOrd) shipped to NY state with no problems in the past.

I got my picks, thankfully. When I really needed them.

Just don't get caught with em, so I'm hearing anyway. If you're searched and they find them on you, you get an added charge to whatever they're trying to bust you for.
