Depends.

If they're from UER, established, and don't sound like a complete nutjob from post history, then yeah, I'd say you are.

But if it's a random basic member with 2-3 posts who's in the area and asks, then yeah, here's a tinfoil hat.

Requisition it?

I won't give anyone without a badge my ID or permit them to copy it.

It's something I've always refused to do. I still carry around my old senior year HS student ID, I hand that one in if someplace needs to "hang onto" my photo ID.

If you need verification of who I am, I'll gladly show my ID and give you my address and phone number but I won't hand my ID over to anyone.

I would also never leave anyone unattended in my house, if they're staying the night, then I'd be there with them.

Yay! Can it be a full on tinfoil ninja mask?

Two reasons:

1. Identity theft is one.
2. Replacement is a pain in the ass.

It's my personal policy, nothing against the OP.

On a college campus my DL would get yoinked pretty quick, just because of my age. All they have to do is find someone who slightly resembles me to use it and then I could be implicated for furnishing alcohol for minors.

Someone could take your ID, burn a building down, and toss your ID on the ground outside ... or any heinous act really.

I doubt one would go to jail, but it certainly could make for a pain in the ass.

Why do you offer your place to strangers if you're that concerned?

Why does his personal policy for how he does things bother you? lol

I agree that I would not hand over my ID, if I were a crasher, but I would give them my info.

If I were to have a crashee here, I'd probably want to write their info down, unless it's someone who I "know" on here.

It's already being nice enough to give someone a place to crash for the night, why not take a step to protect yourself at the same time? If you've never met them you don't truly "know" who these people are.

What's it look like if someone wants to crash at your house, you don't know them, you ask if you can write down their info and they're like "uh...no, I don't want you knowing who I am or where I live". Cuz that's not creepy, right?

(I never even would have thought about copying down their ID if I hadn't seen this thread though, to tell ya the truth)

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

So far we have had 4 people stay here at our place in NC, with two more coming in next weekend. Back in TN we hosted an event at our house and had around 15 people crash with us. I always text them and we add each other on Facebook, so far it has worked out without a problem. I also don't let people crash here if I am not going to be here. Whenever people crash here i make sure I have the day off and we explore whatever they want or at least scout some locations. That's just how I do things though.

Having just looked over the list of people who've posted up crash sites, the greater majority of them are "well known" on UER and/or people I'm familiar with on here. I wouldn't have a problem with any of them.

I think I'm more wary of total strangers.
