Pretty interesting. Seems they've completely turned the car around this year. 400hp v8 and a 305hp v6. Both with a six speed. Not too shabby.

Isn't highway efficiency easy to achieve? (I know nothing about this). What's its city rating? (didn't read link)

19 MPG city

31 highway with auto tranny

30 highway manual tranny

All in all, not too shabby. Still, a V6 on a Mustang is blasphomy...300HP or not!

19mpg city, 31 highway.

And at 300hp, yeah it's kinda tough to get. Look at a 90's GT at 245hp and like 21mpg highway (with a stick and a light foot).

relatively high for that power... my future mother-in-law's vibe gets about 22 city with a tiny 1.8 I4.

I get between 15 and 19 city in my 2007 Mustang GT, depending on how heavy my foot gets.

the older 5.0L Mustangs were pretty good on gas, especially when they had the 2.73:1 rear axle.

That's because most testing is done under "optimal lab conditions"
which nobody gets to drive in. Same with tires....that are rated at 100,000km...bank on 80,000km real life use

I agree, my wave states at best a 5.8L/100km, I regularly achieve 5.5L/100km.

Thanks, I can completely get crap all for economy if I start gunning it all the time (which I do sometimes), but it's the calm driving that gets you an extra couple of trips to work (and I live 30km from work)

Better be based on the SHO.

I've either gotten a lot better or a lot worse than rated fuel econ. My truck swings both ways, my car swings both ways. I guess if I average it over 5,000 miles, it would be close.

For me, fuel economy has everything to do with the loose nut behind the wheel, not the car itself. Except our Camaro. It was in such bad shape that no matter what, it got less than 17MPG. When it was in good condition, I managed nearly 30 MPG from my house to Miami and back. Maintaining 90 MPH with a large group of traffic, stuck between 2 semis that were keeping up will do that for you.

that's funny considering that the new GM cop car due out in North America is a RWD based on the Holden Commodore... it's like 1996 again only Ford may be handing the show over to GM instead if vice versa.

although, thinking about it, there is a whole generation of cops and cops-in-training that have probably never driven a rear-wheel drive vehicle and probably welcome the idea of a Taurus-based FWD cop car. But lessons learned with the Impala and the Intrepid should not be overlooked. FWD's are NOT as rugged as RWD and are not as fast. When in cop trim, a FWD car has a tendency to push harder than a cellphone salesman.

What I always found ironic about the Crown Victoria was that despite it having a high-output 4.6L V8, it was limited to about 120mph. The rear diffs in these cars were weak and just couldn't hold together at higher speeds. Now, the older bodies, back in the late 80's, early 90's, when equipped with the 351W (5.8L for you metric weenies) could run with the new LT1 cars all day long up over 140mph. My father worked for a Ford dealership in Elizabethtown NY and they were constantly having Crown Victoria PI's in for rear end failures, transmission failures, even a couple of engine failures. I feel that the GM product may have been more durable.
In the case of the current iteration of the Impala cop car, they are allegedly limited to 110mph. Not sure why. An SS variant of the Impala with the all-aluminum 5.3L is not limited and will run 140mph all day long without fear or hesitation.

I am hoping that there will be a civilian version of the Chevrolet Caprice released for North America. That will be a hoot again... Instead of an LT1 under the hood, a 400hp LS2 V8!
