Samarai, since I value your advice out of all the other knuckleheads here what would you pay?

Guy shops for cars at a used car lot and he goes around calling people knuckleheads... wow.

But since id be tempted to say something this astronomically hypocritical to someone who spoke to me the way I did to you, i guess i can understand. Do yourself a favour and look in the paper for a public car auction. I'll even give you some numbers to call:

http://www.sergean...ontent/auction.php '03 and '96 caravans for auction tomorrow. you might get the '03 for $2K, now THAT would be a deal.

http://www.speedst....com/pictures.html check out #167 and #196, both have potential and guaranteed you're walking out with the keys for less than a grand. auctions every tuesday, look at them all!

http://cars.gov-au...ns-in-portland-or/ tips for finding government or police auctions, true words in here!

also www.copart.com, just missed the gsa auction here http://www.brasher...land.com/pgve.aspx (next one apr. 22) and http://www.autorepoimpoundauctions.com if you cant find a mint $500 magicwagon after all this, youre not trying. I dug these up in 20 minutes.

Once you buy it at an auction, youre stuck with it, but with scrap prices where they are, you can turn around a $500 van at the shredder and just about break even. And being a self-proclaimed expert on minivans you should have no problem finding a creampuff anyway, right?

I cant think of one good reason to buy a used car at a lot, not one. Getting a lot to make good on a "guarantee" or "buyback" on a car or truck THAT old, at THAT price level, man you can forget it.

I said I would LOOK at used car lots in addition to craiglists and all street corners. Geez. And yeah, you have not been around here long enough I see to understand the beloved term knuckhead from me or Samarui. I'm not really interested in a guarantee from a car lot either; I've survived fine in private sales in the past without them.

I'll be looking at the auction at Sergents tommorrow anyways since I have a friend who works at Sergents. I avoid Speeds SuperTow like a plauge since they are well known in the Portland area for being assholes.

And Samarui, its not practical for me anymore. I don't do that much off-roading and the fuel economy is killing me now on my commute. I also just in general getting tired of the car; I think you know that feeling.

The AWD Caravan for its inteded use for on wet traction and snow is not that bad; but yeah, its no Subaru AWD. And yeah, thats an option too.

I have multiple options to look at...just will see what feels right.

I kinda like them vans. I think an mid 90's with the wood would be sweet. But I'm a freak of nature when it comes to taste in cars.

Actually...it is...I got 20-22 MPG on the old '95 Caravan with the MMC 3.0 V6.

I get right now 15.

I'm with Sam on this one. Go for a Ranger if it's a comparable option

Seriously though, I look back at my times in the Caravan and they were all fun times. Sure, I had to get dirty to fix problems that came up like the CV Joints, but it was otherwise pretty reliable vehicle. I really would like to get back to what I once had. And yes, I never had engine issues with the MMC 3.0 V6.

I know I am pretty sure now to all you guys sounding like a more insane version of Samurai when he talks about Cavaliers, but you know what? Maybe that's a good thing!

I'm willing to do a Ranger if it feels right for me. But there is an apart of me that wants to go back to the car I know and love.

Another idea I was thinking about, was just keep the Passport as the winter car, but then just a running, but beat up Caravan/Ranger/Whatever for the rest of the year. I can get those cars around here for $500.

I just wish I had the garage space to get one of these no-engine Caravans I see on craigslist for pennies and swap in a engine in my spare time.

Skelly,
one thing for sure is that we're all car guys here, and we have loves for cars that may or may not make any sense whatsoever. Like bandi said about a Deloreon a few weeks ago...it has no redeeming qualities and he wants one. I relate well given my choice of publicly hated vehicles.

We may not be fans of the choice, but dude, if at the end of the day, when you get into it to drive it or even see it as you stroll towards it.... you get "that feeling"... that stupid little boy giggle that Sam probably gets when he sees the Cobalt or I get when I see the Hummer.... do it man.
Nothing beats that feeling.... NOTHING

Odds

there were only two on the roster that I saw, if the '03 got $3500 that might not be too bad...

Yeah, it was; however, that '03 had 121,000 miles on and apparently, it had transmission issues. Easily fixed of course for the flippers but a little out of my max.
