I found a documentary on failed inventions, but there's a couple crazy parts to it. Ford toyed with a nuclear powered engine and Chrysler actually worked on a turbine powered car until the 1980's, what's amazing is it worked and...get this...it burned ANY combustible liquid, from alcohol to gasoline to corn oil. Only drawback was the acceleration lag time.

There have been many turbine designs.
However GM had designed and experimented with several gas turbine engines.
