My L600 just decided to stop working... I have tried new batteries, old batteries, freshly charged batteries, tinfoil, etc.

Please help me, this was one of my favorite lights

Let's knock things out in order. Put a battery in and connect the back of the battery to the flashlight tube (skipping the switch in case it's broken). Next, what about the bulb?

It's a halogen bulb. I used it Sunday night, and it was barely working. I kept having to take it apart and put it back together while the switch was clicked on for it to work..

Sounds like it could be a broken filament. They sometimes break but still touch. so you get a weak beam or one that works when held right so it sorta touches. Then when you turn it 180 it wont work at all. Or it works when you shake it. Check if you can see a dark spot in the bulb. If so? I'd replace the bulb.

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

I'm gonna go with the bulb. There's (in theory) 3 things that can fail in an incanny light: Bulb, battery, switch.

Really, there's bulb, battery, switch, spring, and bulb holder, but you get the idea. If you connect the end of the battery to the tube with a wire (or knife, whatever) and it's still dead, swap in a bulb that you know works.

I dunno about that exact model, but if I was you, I would look for a LED replacement on www.dealextreme.com . Yes, it may take a few weeks to show up, but they do work. I replaced the halogen in another flashlight with a drop in LED module from them, and it works amazing. Batteries last forever now too.

Oh, one more thing: Check the electrical contacts. A pencil eraser (scrub lightly, it does the work) will reach in nicely. And nobody seems to make a ready-to-use dropin for the solarforce 600. With that said, LED technology has come a long way in recent years.

My 'neutral white' LED light is pretty good for color rendition. It's got 1/3 the lumens (looks half as bright) as the solarforce, but on AAs it runs for much longer. Also, I can dim it way down... but if you can't stand LED then you can't.

IT'S WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure why the tinfoil didn't work earlier tonight, but I just tried again (while begging and pleading with it, and praying to non-existent gods) and it works!

So now this means it is the switch that is broken, and I have to remove the tinfoil to turn it off. BUT IT'S ALIVEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

you know you're a drainer geek when you get this excited over your favorite light...

Haha don't worry, I understand. I am pretty sure I mention deal extreme at least once a day, and now I've got my dad onto it as well!

Use a (home depot?) copper end cap, if DX shipping is way slow.
