Wow!!! 5 seconds....But is it mobile?

Only shredder I've ever seen is one near my home, it's powered by a WWII destroyer engine, it is painfully slow and loud.

Alright, take a look at this smokin' hot wife, takin' a ride with her F1 driver husband. She sure is a good sport, and cute too.

She is cute, but she talks too much. No shredder for her though.

Maybe I'm just an old fart, but When I think of collectable hot rods, I think of Cudas, Challengers, Chargers, Road Runners, Torinos, Maurauders, Rebels, AMX.

Not a Turismo, Laser, Vega, Pinto, Chevette, Impulse, Eclipse, Pacer, Gremlin.

I would rather have not been caught in one of those, even though I did ride in a few of them.

There was a time when Challengers, Chargers and the like were just old cars. Dude, I teared up taking a fucking running an driving Fairmont to the scrap yard.

You should see some of the shit Ive seen get thrown on the belt. And I worked with a guy who ran the parkdale shredder for ten years, he saw ten car carriers worth of brand new chevy silverados get thrown on the belt, with security guards there to watch them. Container loads of brand new honda generators, fourwheelers, chainsaws with nothing wrong with them, thrown on the belt due to shipping accidents. they were all insured, and paid-out as a loss.

Anyone who works in waste management or recycling has stories to tell. Anything and Everything gets thrown out for all kinds of reasons and even no reason at all. Ask any tombstone at the cemetery. How did you die? Why did you die? The earth always wins.

There was an temp account at the security company I work for that required us to escort two Toyota Camarys off one of the ships into the Port of Portland right over to a scrap yard. The reason? Some asshat forgot to strap in the tires on the ship so the car smashed into a load bearing girder on the ship taking out out the trunk. Because Toyota unlike Mazda or Honda does not have at-port pre-Customs inspection service center, they had to be scrapped.

I hadn't thought about this in years, but this thread just made me remember.

In 1986 I was driving tow and recovery trucks, doing wrecks and impound services for a few police agencys.

We got a call to take all of our available trucks (6) And meet Torrance police detectives at Lamborghini of america headquarters in Carson CA.

We hauled 6 Lambos and 2 Range Rovers out of that place, All of them picked up by the FEDS the very next day. They said they were takin' them to the shredder, due to VIN alterations.

I never believed them........

Back in the early 70's a friends Dad had a mid 60's VW Squareback wagon. It was red with a black roof. The black roof seemed a bit weird. Turns out it had some damage in shipping, and was repainted.

A good example of what could happen; instead of destroying things for insurance or whatever.

+ Agree with Louie and others, sick when they shred even semi cool cars, especially a running Beetle.

I recently tried to buy a 70's Vista Cruiser from the wrecker. Went there several times, they kept stuffing it full of metal. That's what they do, then crush it.
It had no front doors, but damn, I just wanted to fix it up and drive to Wally World :(

we had a couple of cars at the Job Corps I went to over in Vermont that were 'questionably obtained' and even more questionably disposed off. We had a beautiful 93 GMC Jimmy (think S10 Blazer). It had taken a tumble off a car carrier and had been fixed. The dealer found out they could not sell it so it was donated to us. It had 17 miles on it. It was supposed to be scrapped, but was sold by the instructor. We had an 86 Cavalier Z24 hatchback that had been stolen off the car carrier and not exactly wrecked, but dinged up. So that was donated as well... i could've cried. The engine ended up in an S10 2wd, body was crushed.

At least today they recycle the metal, so it's not a total waste. Unless you know, it's made into a Toyota :p

We had a red 5 speed 3.4 liter Z34 Lumina in my auto shop class that was damaged on the car carrier (slight dent on hood and fender)... it had 3 km on the clock, and a Geo Tracker with a scratch on the driver's door with 4 km on the clock.

In trade school we had a 2001 Impala, '02 Regal, '02 Avalanche and an '02 Express... GM of Canada is really good about donating damaged vehicles to educational facilities. The Avalanche was shipped out, hacked to bit and made into various workshops... ie, running engine/tranny/HVAC system on a mobile cart with accessible terminals to play with the BCM/ECM/EBCM so you could create open circuits, etc... it was really, really cool. There was also a panel with the whole power window system, one with the ABS system, one with a cutaway and still working power seat system... it was really neat to see how everything worked, and to be able to create your own problems in a "virtual vehicle"

I used to sit on the Board for Apprenticeships & Trades in Ontario. Conestoga College Guelph campus got some great scores while I was there.

1) new Corolla off of the line in Cambridge
2) city bus from Grand River transit
3) 6 Caterpillar engines - don't recall where from
4) Transport truck tractor froM Challenger Motor Freight

Really gave the students great learnings.

with our school, we had old GSA leavings (General Services Administration) because we were under the auspices of the Department Of Labor. Most of the donated cars and trucks were from the Navy.

Snap On did hook us up with a beautiful alignment rack, though and boxes of hand tools

The Tech school where I used to live ended up with a Viper. It was damaged when it was being unloaded at the dealership. Needless to say one of the instructors took his girlfriend out for a late night test drive and wrapped it around a pole.
