Well a friend of mine gave me a Uniden Bearcat BC 200XLT 200 Channel Scanning Radio a long time ago, just got it out and started to play with it again, I really have no clue what it does, since I have just goten in to this stuff, I have googled it, and found verry little info on it, from what I have played around with it, I can listen to police channels, and also telephone calls, I assume the user is using a wireless phone, and info on it, or help to learn how to use it would be greatly apreciated

Here's a link to the manual: http://www.rigpix.com/bearcat/bc200xlt_manual.pdf

You can start out by googling the local police and public safety frequencies (or whatever else you're interested in, there are a lot of online databases of local/regional/national radio channels). Hit the "manual" button and start scrolling through the channels on your scanner with the up and down keys, and enter the frequency you want into an empty channel using the keypad. When you have everything entered, hit Scan, and it will search through the frequencies you entered. Check the manual for more on banks and priority and stuff like that.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

Hey there.

That's a pretty decent scanner.

Unfortunatly, you won't be able to listen to York Regional Police or any of the Fire Departments in York Region.

They are using the York Region Trunked system, and your scanner won't track a trunked system. All is not lost, however. You can program in the voice frequencies for the York system and you'll still hear everything, the only downside to this is that you will be unable to determine exactly what you are listening to. You could hear District 2 police one second, Markham Fire another and By-Law enforcement another. York Region isn't very busy so that shouldn't be a huge problem.

Voice Frequencies for York are as follows:
860.9875, 863.4875, 866.1375, 866.3625, 866.6375, 867.1375

As you can see, there aren't very many frequencies, so you shouldn't have a problem hearing anything.

York Region EMS is dispatched by the Mississauga CACC (Central Ambulance Communications Center), on 152.0000MHz. They will be switching to a new Province wide VHF trunking system in the near future, unfortunatly.

There's plenty more you can listen to - the best way to find new frequencies is just search around online! Or if you're looking for something specific, or even not so - reply on here and I'll see what I can do for you!

I Just have a couple of questions, I found these frequencies and they were listed as york emergency services frequencies, I know they are, but the question I have is every so often one of the two (it alternates) gives off a low pulsing tone that slightly fluctuates, any idea what it is?
frequencies are

867.4125
867.9125

Thanks,

Conundrum

Hey there...

Yes, those are what's called Control Channels. They are 3600 baud data channels that tells the radios what frequencies and talkgroups to use.

There's actually three Control Channels that York Region use;

867.4125, 867.6375 and 867.9125

I can identify any control channel....what kind of system it is, if it's smartzone, omnilink, type I, type II, MPT, NOR, EDACS SCAT, EDACS LOW, EDACS HIGH, etc... Heck, I could even tell you if there's activity on the system just from the control channel

Yah, I don't have a life, incase y'all were wondering.
