the article wasn't clear on one point... was this car going to be restored? Is there enough left of it to be restored?

Looks like there is but, it will probably cost less to build a reproduction than it would to restore the original. The article claimed that only 22% of the original car is still reusable.

The new owner may just keep it as a static display.

I think Blue bird was dug up many years ago, from the sand at Daytona? Not sure?

Awesome, thanks for posting this....

Never mind I got mixed up with A driver named Lee Bible, he died on Daytona beach in a land speed record attempt. His car was the Golden Arrow.

The winning bidder - a European collector representing the Peter Mullin Collection in California - will show the car in its present condition in his museum, whereas the underbidder - an American - had intended to restore the car.

There was a 21 window VW microbus pulled out of a lake in Sweden or Norway that's actually being restored now... the cold water had actually kept the metal in remarkably good shape.

What is it with VW and water lol.

They pulled a 79 VW convertable out of Lake Greenwood in SC back in the 90's. Local Bug Dr. found it and displayed it infront of his shop. He said it had been stolen off the lot in 79 and dumped. I dunno, but it was ruff ruff ruff.

There's no substitute for a car with original parts in tact/restored. replica's fetch SFA for cash when sold.

round here people dump in the seaway, but the south shore channel in most places is 27 feet and the ships load to 26 feet, so the cars are quickly found

Heh, I was about to say that the Bugatti was in surprisingly good condition until I saw the pic of the other side...

And as far as car dumps go, I would love to go diving in an underwater junkyard. That would be incredibly interesting to me.
