well, the Cobalt needed fronts again.
Instead of going with the Fuzion ZRi's again, which I really didn't care for, I went with Hankook Ventus X110 Evo's. They seem to be a bit grippier when cold (the Fuzions didn't seem to want to grip until you had a couple of miles of beating on them), but at the limit, they feel odd.

Anyone run Hankook Ventus tires before?

Sadly not, Sam. Have only ever run Michelin or Goodyear.

We ran them as tarmac tires on the rally cars for a while, never had any issues.

While I normally don't do performance tires, I do know my friend Stirling on his Charger has those tires and he loves them! And they seem to not eat up tread as other tires do. If it matters he puts on about 100 miles a day on his car too.

i was charged $145.00 apiece
the garage also charged me $25 a tire to mount and balance, which I had to help with. and to add to that, their machine scratched the shit out of my wheels.
the final bill for TWO tires was $382!
won't be going there again!

Bein a former tire guy, I wouldn't have made it thru that Sam. Shit like scratchin a rim and such is inexcusable. I may have ended up arrested.

Did you get them from a chain store? Cuz I'd be calling head office about your rims being scratched.

Hankook tires are great! Hankook sponsors like 50 drivers at a time attack i go to, and everyone LOVES them and lays down great track times on them. They are a great tire!

tire machines don't scratch rims. Guys incorrectly installing tires with tire machines scratch rims! period


$25.00 balancing a tire seems a little steep unless they are 50 series or less low profile tires.

America's Tire (which is owned by Discount Tire) charges 14.00 a tire for install & balancing around here.

I buy my tires, then go to a little Mexican owned tire shop by my house. Everything cost me $20, and they never hurt any of the cars ive brought there. Im sort of a regular.

You guys and your chain stores. Avoid them!

it was an older style tire machine that the wheel didn't really fit on.
the wheels are 18". The tires were factory-sized 215-45-ZR18.

I go to whoever is the cheapest of the day...sometimes its the chain stores, sometimes its Xavier's Tire Barn around the corner.

I go to the same place Dave goes. They squirt lighter fluid into the tire, ignite it , and it pops the bead on in a second. It even works well on my sand tires with 18" deep rims.

Plus it's really cool to watch!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't that similar to what they do in baja desert races with ether?

Yes, Ether is probably the best and safest to use. But I've seen people use lighter fluid, and even gasoline. The liquidy stuff can splash if you're not careful. That can be very bad in the desert with no water at hand.

Dont laugh, ive seen very professional racing teams do that with tires.
