you know, Subarus should come with warning stickers because you never know what the fuckers have under the hood.
Case in point yesterday afternoon... a beige WRX, factory wheels, older guy driving it. I thought nothing of it until he kept gunning it, taking off, slowing up, daring me to have at it.
US Route 9 is pretty empty all the time as most traffic opts for I-87, so coming out of Keeseville, NY, we had at it. I figured it was a sitting duck. I got down into 2nd at about 40mph and dropped the hammer... the Cobalt is good from this RPM/speed as you're in the cams, in the boost and pulls like a freight train to 6200RPM where the rev limiter steps in. I figured this would be a walk in the park. Nope. He pulled away from me. I banged third gear at 55-60mph, still pulling for all I was worth. He was still pulling, but not quite so hard at that point, so I stayed in it to about 90 or so, hit 4th gear. He shifted, gave a big old black/brown puff and started to pull on me again. By this time, I'm going over 120, he's going faster than that. On a public road. In broad daylight. I may as well have called the Essex County Jail and made reservations! We ran out for a couple of miles and stopped at a little state campsite where I got to see what beat my ass.

It was a fucking sleeper. It was a full-on overbuilt Subie with more ass than a weight watchers convention. He smoked me like 3000lbs of bacon.

Under the hood of the car was pure art. It left me thinking, if you're going to get beat by something, at least get beat by something neat.

I once got raped by a early 80's Chevy long bed truck pulling a cement mixer when I had my GT Mustang. It was a true WTF moment. It saw him a couple days later at the local Advance Auto. I has a built Big Block and TH400. Ya always gotta think, why is he reving at me. Guys who drive sleepers are like lawyers, they never ask a question they don't already know the answer to. Its why I like sleepers.

My Hartge tuned 325is was savagely raped by a Lada once... I was doing about 180 km/h and he passed me like I was in reverse.

Caught up with the guy at the next gas station, he had a twin turbo 13b rotary engine in it. Neat.

Cool story well written. A friend once had a VW Dune Buggy with a turbo Corvair engine. I never knew him then, but believe his stories, well most of them.

In grade 8 for an English class project I wrote about a VW Bus with a Porsche 911 engine that eluded the cops. Got a B+ or something, the teacher was a car guy, he had a Triumph TR6 Big Wheel.

Always thought my Dad would blow up the 60 HP engine in our 1970 Bus, pushing 3rd to 60 when your supposed to shift at about 45, mph that is. Childhood trauma, damn I felt for that wee motor, sure enough, one day it dropped a valve.

My sister is Charlotte Light and Dark. Who am I?

Was driving 390 south going to pick up Colorblinded. A 2008(ish) Civic SI comes racing up, so I gave him a run for it. He and I kept pace well... He wasn't a great driver but a bit more nimble than me in my Sex Panther.

And then, out of nowhere, a '96 Sentra SE-R smokes both of us.

Me goin' legit would be like JarJar on speech therapy.
