I live in SoCal and have been interested in cars my whole life. been going to track events for the last 6 years. Did the skip barber racing school at laguna seca last summer. here's my current car - second subaru on the track. It's an '02 wrx in the midst of being built for USTCC. Engine's pretty much stock at the moment but the inside is ready for seam welding and roll cage. Haven't done too much with this car yet except for a few hill climbs. Should be getting into some autox in the fall and some club track events.

I'd love to see your car and know what you do with it!

I had a Subaru Impreza wagon, 1996. Thing was a nightmare since day one. Finally sold it two days ago.

Now I drive a 1987 Volkswagen Jetta, 90K miles on it.

I've taken my car to the track once. (07 Mustang GT)

14.0 in the quarter mile, with the outside temperature over 90, a newbie driver, and a mostly stock car isn't terrible I suppose. I at least beat my friend driving a Neon SRT.

If I ever go back, I'm gonna make sure to do things a little different...like remove my spare tire and make sure the gas tank is below half.

2007 Cobalt SS/SC
Had it since September 2006.
had it on the strip a couple of times, but i wasn't prepared for it.
mostly just do our own homegrown redneck time attacks of a couple of twisty roads.
the only thing i've done to it is added a Hurst shortthrow shifter, ARK strut bar and a drop in K&N filter.

Welcome to the board!
You have fairly wicked taste in cars- I've worked MANY Subarus, made more than a few into rally cars (and have a '96 Outback sport), and own a '72 2002.

Very nice bugeye, we used to run an '01 STi (as well as a '96 GC8 converted into a version 4 STi) in open class, but we're running a pair of Mitsubishi Evos now, a 4 and a 6. Personally I prefer the Subies... but the Evos have done us well.

Post some pics of the BMW!!

As for tracking my own car, my Tercel sees quite a bit of track time, I do some solo II events, a few club races every year, some autoslalom, lots of navigational rallies, and even did one rallycross event, but it was far too hard on her.

Sadly I haven't had the time to get her out yet this year... ditto with my 2002.

Dude I want your cars so badly. Both of them. Those are literally two of my favorite cars ever

I myself currently drive an 89 VW Fox GL

Fairly stock currently, just a drop in K&N filter and a few minor cosmetic things. I have a better flowing throttle body from 91 Difigant Fox I got from the U-Pull-it yard and some Gabriel strut inserts I just ordered that will go in soon. Then I have to decide if I want to stick with the anemic 1.8L and buy a ton of parts or go crazy and drop in a 2.0L 16v bubbleblock from an Audi 80 which is an easy swap I've heard.

Why spend this much on a Fox? Because I love my car very very much

Streets of willow or big willow? i wasn't at either this weekend. i've actually only driven that track once a year or two ago. got to test drive the '09 STi before it was released. seems like the new subies are getting mushier and bigger each year. kinda sad. Never heard of Berk Technology - what do you guys do? i love bmw's!! i had a 2003 BMW 540i with the M sports package - 6 speed. loved it but never tracked it. too much stabilization technology and when you disarm it, it felt like i was driving on spoons lol. sold that car when i went back to school though.

Bandi - love your roundie! Mine's anthracite but it's non-op at the moment. needs a new center bearing in the drive shaft just to run but since it's a '76 i have to actually smog it thanks to lovely california laws. it doesn't pass stock. a friend of mine stores his M2 here in OC but lives in china. he comes to visit his car a few times a year and lets me drive it when he's in town. LOOOOOOOOVE it!!

the tercel must be a great track car except for the fact that it's front wheel drive. you don't need a lot of power if you have a good line and technique. I actually prefer NA over turbo. my first race car was also a subaru...
when it was in stock class for scca and solo 2

many sets of wheels later lol

insanebuslady - my sister has a jetta TDI that has like 200k miles on it that she's driven across canada a couple times. she had a '93 jetta before that which she also drove into the ground. some of the coolest car people are VW club folks.

Thanks! I'm sooo glad nothing made before '88 needs a smog test here, because I kind of thrive on vintage euro trash.

The Tercel is pushing about 145 hp at the tires, so it works QUITE well! A friend of mine built a turbo one, and couldn't keep up with me, the tiny 1.5 just took too long to spool. I've swapped in a 5E-FHE from a Japanese Toyota Cynos, did some mild internal stuff (cams, port & polish), ran some larger injectors, a TRD chip and a Pacesetter header and I'm wicked happy with the results. The fact that the thing weighs 1700 lbs helps too I guess I can fling it around like it's rear wheel drive, and have embarassed the owners of some far more expensive/powerful cars. Always a good time!

The best part is I bought it as a practical commuter car since I was putting too many miles on my old 325is... then I made it go faster/handle better and sold the bimmer.

mild = port and polish!? lol!! always wanted to do that to the legacy. traded it for the f250 diesel after i got the bmw 540i. did you gut the tercel? getting the sound deadening out is super fun! just use dry ice and a rubber mallet.

turbo lag is the pits. i've had two turbo cars (not including diesel) and love to listen to it spool but the power band spike is less than great for a track. no lower end torque and then you go from lag to spike in 3 seconds haha.

that's where a supercharger is nice... its got the goods off the line and through the RPM's.
but the tuning potential is just not as great as with a turbo.

here's a few of my track cars from the past several years

this car i drove at homestead miami during a D1 drivers search and made it into an Options video. i also had spike TV put a couple cameras in my car and i had my own segment on Autozone TV in 2003 with this one (pics from 2003)

interview with Nomuken ^^

then it got a face lift for the next season, ditched the SR20, went KA-T and made a vmount setup (pics from 2004)

^^my buddy is an iterior guy, so we LV'ed everything for the hell of it haha ^^

i sold that car and built a new one for the next year. took an S13 hatchback and made my own metal S14 front. we made it about 30mm wider and ran 17x10 +12 wheels on all four corners. (pics from 2005-2006)

also, went back to the SR20 after blowing through my reserve of KA's that i had lying around the shop.

then my daily was just a street slut that i cleaned out and simplified (pics from around 2001-2002)

i had this car and my white race car up until 2007 and then my business of 8 yrs was robbed and i was forced to shut down and part out my baby in order to do the right thing and pay my customers back their money. every part that i had ordered was gone. i closed the doors in 2008 and was forced to find a real 'job'. ugh. one day, ill throw a new car together. i picked up an IS300 and i think thats going to be the next track whore
