I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi films, which unfortunately are not plentiful, at least good ones

So I'm looking for suggestions for good sci-fi. I like technical sci-fi with lots of character building, think along the lines of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, Sunshine (which started awesome and got kind of crappy toward the end), THX 1138, and even the original Star Wars trilogy.

Anyway all suggestions are welcome, and I will add it to my Netflix queue

Moon.

Ah I meant to include that on my list. I thought Moon was pretty good. Sam Rockwell is a good lead (lol well only character) and Duncan Jones is the motherfucking man, especially for making that with like 8 million dollars

never considered Star Wars a science fiction film... it was more like space opera, or an action movie with blasters.

Now a good science fiction movie? Hmmm... it's a hit or miss, but Silent Running with Bruce Dern was a bit off the cuff. 2010 with Roy Scheider was pretty good as well.

Yea Star Wars isn't a scifi but it has real science fiction aspects and definitely changed how scifi was done..

I'll have to check both of those out, thanks

Primer! It's a present-day setting, but certainly sci-fi.

Just watched Pandorum and thought it was fantastic. More action than sci-fi, but still really good. Serenity - and Firefly, the series that begat the movie - is excellent as well.

Watch it before they fuck it up with an American version in 2012.

mutantMandias may cause dizziness, sexual nightmares, and sleep crime. ++++ mutantMandias has to return some videotapes ++++ Do not taunt mutantMandias

mutantMandias is something more than human, more than a computer. mutantMandias is a murderously intelligent, sensually self-programmed, non-being

Sweet thanks for the responses. Added most of those to my queue, keep them coming

Oh, and I realized I have seen 2010. Just forgot it was the sequel to 2001
