Have you considered becoming an emancipated minor? I don't know how close you are to 18, but if your parents are in denial, it might be the best thing to do. You may also want to tell your grandparents or a school counselor what's going on, and maybe they can speak up on your behalf.

NH - get in touch with me via private message. I have some excellent contacts regarding Lyme Disease and I'm sure they could help you out if your interested.

BTW - there is more treatment for you than whats being done; and forget your "two decades" prognosis. What a rotten thing for a doctor to tell a kid; especially with all the progress they are making with the disease.

Lyme is a messsed up disease if it progress too far. Biggest symptoms is the arthritis as you described and constant fatigue. WTF parents?

Kill your parents. What's the worst that can happen...20 years? HA. You've got that beat.

Or you can sue them for willful neglect, and have their names and faces splashed around in the media, get them branded as cruel and stupid people and unfit parents, and raise awareness of this disease and of its life-threatening and/or far-reaching effects, and of its various treatments, etc. AND if you win your suit against them, you can seize possession of their house and kick them to the streets, where they belong.

Let me know how it works out.

(but seriously...get a lawyer)

Get a lawyer..like the previous post says.

My cousin and my uncle both had Lyme disease from deer ticks they got deer hunting. Both of them are free of the disease now. Both caught it within a month of exposure and had the neurological symptoms and were treated with IV penicillin and ceftriaxone, on top of six weeks oral medication.

I can't understand why your parents would be in denial, it's not like Lyme disease is like AIDS or hepatitis or a social disease you contract from sex or something. You got it from a tick. It happens. Especially in this part of the world.

Worse comes to worse, get to upstate NY and see a doctor, even Vermont has some experience with it. But it's prevalent in this area of NY because of the hunter population. So many people hunt deer or fish up here that there were thousands of people that came forward who had it when the news services picked it up, so most doctors in this area have some, if not a lot of experience treating it.

Fuck the supplements and the homeopathic crap, you need drugs and lots of them, vitamins and exercise aren't going to cure this.

Naturopaths are different from homeopaths, at least I think.

Know what? You should show this thread to your parents. Well, if you get angry at them.

I've been chatting with my parents, and they are looking into more treatments currently. I've been praying and being proactive, so it's paid off. Hopefully, we can find a lyme-literate doctor who isn't far away or balls-out expensive.

Things seem to be looking up, and I am glad I am starting to get across to them.

And naturopathy and homeopathy are very different. Because I'm too lazy to state why: http://www.ehow.co...-vs-homeopath.html

When my mom had bad Lyme, she was seeing a doctor in Buffalo. This was like 15-20 years ago when it wasn't well known. All the doctors in the area thought she was crazy. Then she saw this guy (a Dr. Lee - don't know the first name). He was expensive as hell and not on my parents insurance, but due to his interest in her case and his concern he took her on and remains her and my dads physician to this day. She's doing much better.

This isn't the last 80's any more though. If you goto your typical general practitioner, these day's they know about lyme. They may not be experts. You'd need to find some type of infectious disease specialist.

Edit: It was this guy: http://www.ucompar...Richard_V_Lee.html Though I don't think that really helps being in NH.

You know, I'm starting to have more sympathy for your parents. You must have done something to them, like ask for an allowance or forget to take out the trash or something.

NHUrbex, hope you're feeling better and hope your parents get their heads out of their asses and see what the hell their neglect is doing to you.

Sounds like an insurance nurse I dealt with before. Telling me my back is just fine and I can go back to full duties when it was still injured. She also told one of my co-workers that he doesn't have diabetes as it sets in no earlier than the age of 60. It took a call from his lawyer to get her to briefly smarten up. As for my case, I told her to sign an agreement that if I go back to work and become permanently disabled, she's footing all the costs (house, vehicle accessible, proper wheelchair and full retraining for me) that would crop up as a result of this.

I have seen this attitude from older and supposedly more mature people too many times.

"Too young to have (name your ailment)" as these are considered afflictions of the elderly.

Your parents' attitude toward your ailment scare me.

Right now, I'm going through some blood tests and misc. stuff. Hopefully I will be on meds pretty soon. My parents have come around a little, but we don't see eye-to-eye on everything. I consider it a major victory to be getting some treatment. Not really that reassuring when the nurse says, "Lyme's disease? We have that in NE?"

No, bimbo, I got it when I was commuting to the Moon. Sheesh

And she couldn't find a vein to save her cats' lives. It was less like finding a vein, more like tenderizing my arm.

I live in the southern NH area where the map is black. Any questions? I've been noticing alot of my neighbors are starting to come down with flu-like symptoms and joint stiffness. Alot of neighbors! I would love to relocate, but this part of NH is particularly beautiful. F*cking ticks have to mess it up for everyone..
