I bought a car and the charming women who is taking care of the financing and sell me all kind of stuff like extended warranty told me about a rust treatment with bee wax.It cost about 300 bucks and apparently last longer that oil treatment.They also use tar to protect under the car.It has to be done one time she said.Any feedback on this treatment ? Is it worth the money ?

Buy the special sealer too.

Its all bullshit. All salesmen say you will get a special sealer and a special undercoating for X amount. Tell her to give you the car, and leave it the hell alone.

So...If I want to prevent the rust to infest my car what I should use ? Is the 60$ for a regular oil treatment good ?

I just asked the dealer at VW what the tx was like for the underc on the wagon I want and he blinked a few times "who gets that on a vw?"
I was expecting him to rob me blind, not call me stupid for asking what fucking tx they used.

living in Quebec, the old used oil spray is pretty damn good. it's illegal here in Der Empire State, but still done in Vermont.

vince, go see barry dan on jean talon, he does grease spray. he doesnt drill holes, thats where rust always starts on rust check shit treated cars. he removes panels and is the only guy in quebec who does the roof. I have had every one of my cars done by him, my 01 sunfire went to the junkyard with no rust anywhere, the grand prix is a 97 and is in the same condition.

the sunfire is especially surprising it had no rocker panel and wheel well rust. there is also a guy in ste-martine who does a good job with chainsaw/used motor oil. stay away from the wax type rust treatments. here in quebec the big problem is they go hard in winter, if you have a little bump with another car they can form a cavity behind the wax, trap moisture and actually cause rust

As for the legality of rust oil treatments in the US, its a long story but I will explain the gist of it.

The EPA has concerns over one brand of the stuff due to a few chemicals that can be dangerous while applying the stuff, but has not outright banned it. So its in the power of states. New York I believe just disallows the use of the off-the-shelf stuff, but has no problem for those shops and people who have their own homemade oil treatments.

The only states I know that outright ban are Missouri I believe, which does not have a rust problem.

my dad used to go to a small texaco station when i was a kid, the owner would tape up his service bays like the appartment in american psycho for 2 weeks every fall. him and his mechanic would heat up motor oil and chainsaw oil on a coleman stove and then put it in the air paint sprayer. it was a real unprofessional environment but it worked. after he was done he gave you a map to the nearest gravel road and told you to stir up some dust!
