i want to share my friends' Mustang with you guys because you can appreciate the sense of humor he had building it. Ray is a mechanical genius and isn't afraid to do his own thing. He's always been that way.

His Mustang started out as an 86 Mustang SVO shell. The engine and transmission were gone, the interior was shot, the wiring was slagged... it was four wheels and some glass. Rather than going the old tried and true 5.0/5.8L route, Ray opted for something a bit different. He had read about swapping a GM LS1 into a Fox-body. It was lighter than the ford small block and had more power potential than the Ford modular engines. So he started building the car... It's an honest to god animal this thing.

It's a LS1 sourced from a 2000 Camaro SS, the 6-speed is sourced from a similar vintage Firebird WS6. The rear end is an 8.8 Ford with 3.55:1 ratio. Believe it or not, the 7.5 3.73:1 SVO axle last for quite a while before it blew it's cookies. After that, he swapped in a 2.73:1 8.8 open diff out of a Lincoln Mark 8. A week ago, he had a speed shop in Fort Edward NY install the 3.55's

Anyways, these are a couple of pics I have of the car:

You're right... it's not. The hood, front clip and fenders were a loss when he started the project. The rear bi-plane spoiler is still the factory piece that came on the car.

inside the car is sans sound deadener and back seat. Instead, there is a roll bar inside, leather seats out of a 99+ Mustang GT. The factory Mustang gages have gone byebye and in their place is a pod that he built and wired. Even the heater/AC has been removed. He has (i think he called it...) a Mojave kit for either heat or defrost... and that's it. The only extravagance on the car is that it still has power windows and he put a CD player in. Other than the car is all business.

To be honest with you, I have never driven a car that is as violent as this thing. I know that's going a stretch, especially in this crowd, but the car is just savage. He says that at about 110 or so, the aerodynamics really start to work against him... the 86 Mustang was not very aerodynamic. Against a Z06 Corvette, the Vette started to take him at about 120.

Personally, i've only had the car to 115 and that was in the length of an interstate on-ramp!

yeah, man. the aero on those cars is awful. i had an 85 GT with a built '306' and at 150+ it was terrifying hahaha

theres a local SN95 bodied mustang with an LS1 here and it's pretty serious. but, i also put LS1's in 240SX's so imagine that kind of power in a car that weighs 2500 lbs. with stock 4.08 rear gearing. super fun!

Ray says the car tops out at about 155, but it gets there pretty damn quick. At the time he did this swap, there were only 6 or 7 cars that had this swap done.
