I hang out with girls, there's drama, I hang out with guys, there are strings attached. I give up.

Oh, and I'm working twelve hours a day, seven days a week, so I haven't been a-splorin in FOREVER. This pisses me off.

All I can say is get used to it.

I work upwards of 50 or 60 hours a week, depending on what's going on between the union business and extra work at work.

I haven't been out socially since the last union meeting and that was two months ago. I had two beers with a couple friends afterward and that's the last time I've been out.

Well I'm discovering that I run better on less sleep. This is not a good discovery.

That's another thing to get used to.

I sleep like 4 to 6 hours a night and if I sleep more than that, I feel lousy.

I'm the other way around.. If i get less than 7 hours of sleep per night, I can't function properly and end up feeling as if a bus ran me over. On my days off, I sleep almost 12 hours and I feel refreshed after.

Isn't Union Business a social killer? Automatically when becoming a Union officer all your friends become suspicious, and you become guarded about everything, you're always afraid of breaching confidentiality and everything the government or the employer does makes you reflect and analyze looking for exploitive policies and practices,,...ugg.

lol...well, we hold our meetings at the EMA building near the plant. Which just happens to have a bar. Usually they turn into social occasions afterward. We usually all stop and have at least one on the way home.

It also helps that I work with the Vice President on a daily basis and we've known each other for far too long.

It's nothing like what you're describing really. We don't have THAT many problems as we don't have THAT many members.

You're the lucky one.

we have 3700 members, the largest Health Care local in Canada. I detest the politics. I am cool with all the other officers though. It gets hard, 6 of us representing all 3700 members 24 / 7.

Owwwww. That sounds very painful.

We have about 200-300 members. Usually it's just little stuff. By and large, it's mostly stuff we can just drag a member of management into his/her/its office and say "this is what happened, this is what you should do about it or this is what we'll do and what will happen." 90 percent of the time, management agrees and will fix what's wrong. The other 10 percent, we end up going through the grievance process. About 10 percent of those end up going all the way through to arbitration.
