4sevens Maelstrom G5 Tactical flashlight Review

Well some of you may have already heard but 4sevens has just recently released their newest line of high performance tactical flashlights, the Maelstrom line! The first light the Maelstrom G5 was just released a few weeks ago but I was given the opportunity to test drive one for a couple months and man is it a performer!

That being said lets start off with the specs... This XP-G thrower is putting out an enormous amount of light coming in at 350 lumens on Max!!! Even with that much light you should get more than an hour of runtime on max. In addition there are two sets of modes. First is Max, Strobe, SOS, Beacon. Second is High (200lm), Medium(28lm), Low(4lm), Moonlight(.2lm). Those modes are accessed by silently twisting the head of the G5.

Next up is design, fit, and function. This lights main purpose is for the tactical user but it is not limited to that market, just designed for it. The entire light was designed to operate silently so as not to give away your position when you don't want to. The switching of the modes is done silently by twisting the head. The batteries are held quietly in the light body by a inner cap system that reduces the rattle you get with most lights. The bezel is interchangeable with a SS Crenelated and smooth black version (Both included) The G5 also comes with removable "cigar grip" ring and pocket clip. This light is truly customizable just like many of 4sevens lights. The G5 was also made to function well with a 1" weapon mount. The anodizing is also pretty high quality and should last a long time.

Overall I would say that the Maelstrom G5 is a great addition to 4sevens lineup and is great for the tactical user or the avid explorer. This is not something I would personally carry in my pocket as an EDC but would work well in a sheath on your belt for draining or any other exploration. If you are looking for an EDC type thrower with a good runtime and output I would take a look at the 4sevens Turbo.

Also dont forget the special discount 4sevens is offering UER members! Just enter uer10 for a 10% discount off your entire order!

UER10 for 10% off. How is the output pattern? It'd be nice to see drain beamshots ;)

Haha oops ='X Modified!

The beam is mostly a very nice hotspot but it has an ample amount of spill for everything else. The G5 I had was actually a pre-production sample and the production version is supposed to put out even more lumens then the one I had and I THINK they said they modified the reflector a little also. I personally think they should make a beam diffuser so you have the best of both worlds. Sadly I am not in possesion of this beast anymore so I cant do beamshots (And they would turn out terrible anyway ;) )
