| | | Posted by Oryx Question: what's the point of a nook color?
| It seems like an ipad alternative, really. LCD screen, low battery life, heavy. I'm sure it's pretty cool for various applications, but not really a substitute for the e-ink devices. Oh, I have a kindle now, and it really is great. Small, very light, and so very convenient. I took it on holidays, and found it particularly convenient that I could stop reading something worthwhile, and switch to something trashy while trying to stay awake in an airport lounge.

| | | Posted by splumer The university at which I work is considering abandoning printed textbooks altogether in favor of e-books. They did a study with them about a year ago and found 70 percent of students preferred them over conventional textbooks. I wonder if you can highlight, though?
| Actually, you can! You can do just about everything and the cost is, for our products, 55% of the regular cost of a textbook. Study notes, keyword searches, testing, retesting, learning objectives, search the entire text for keywords and examples. I work for one of the top 3 educational publishers, at least in Canada, we are muuuuch huger in the US. The BIGGEST issue is actually cost of people letting us use their copyrighted material electronically.
