When you work 3+ doubles in a row and/or no less than 50 hours a week, come back and complain

You do get used to it...but wait till you have go weeks or possibly months, without seeing someone you love and care about...or getting laid.

This is my life because of my stupid job.

I work about 60 hours a week and work every single weekend on call from 5pm friday til 8:30am monday...plus having to physically be there all night friday, saturday, sunday.

And about 5 months ago, I returned from Afghanistan where, basically due to being in the middle of the desert halfway across the world, I worked 24/7 for 6 months, with work that involved being shot at and having a LAV I was in hit an IED.

I feel entitled to bitch and moan about it.

Currently pissing me off: I forgot my smokes and the only person I bumed on off was dumb hipster civilian employee who smokes bullshit Parliments, and wears bullshit skinny jeans and converse sneakers. (as opposed to my baggy relish coloured fatigues bloused neatly into my boots) also, she pisses me off because she has a macbook, which despite being a proper unix (mac OS X is POSIX and SUS compliant) she diddn't even know that the macbook had the BASH shell, let alone how to use the shell and how to use pipes. I want to smack her and make her use Solaris followed by NetBSD for a month. As well as forcing real cigarettes on her...she can keep the skinny jeans, she is actually attractive in them. Really I'm just pissed off because I forgot my smokes and I need a smoke.

I had to go regulate this weekend. I woke up Sunday morning at dawn to a call from my really cute friend at the compound saying the "care taker" that's been out there for a few months went crazy. It was a 5 hour drive nonstop to get there, didn't even pack or shower. I show up to the dude trying to bullshit me then find out he let the 40,000 dollar battery banks get FUCKING TOASTED at 108F degrees for a few weeks. Their optimum temp is 75F, and you don't want them above 90F. He threatened my friend's safety, got into a fight with another guy and squandered all the funds I secured for the place. He's lucky he got out of there before I found the sulfates on the batteries, or he'd be in that desert a long time.

Moral of the story: if you have a bad feeling about someone there is probably a reason.

C++

Who the hell invented this language and who the hell uses it? It has the execution time of Ruby, the brevity and compactness of COBOL and the pitfalls, traps and difficulty of C rolled into one horrible crock of a language.

Just use regular C I says... its faster and the codebase is like 1/3rd the size.

I hate maintaining code written in lame languages with no comments...

Having to play counselor to your roommate for two hours because her boyfriend got upset and "worried" because she didn't text him immediately after she got off work (no cellphones during work hours) and is still having "bad dreams" and not being able to sleep because he keeps picturing her with her ex's...and gets jealous and "worried" about her hanging out and talking to her friends that he doesn't know....such as some mutual friends that I can attest to being very genuine and trustworthy people. On and on the same crap as 5 months ago...she thinks he's going to change....ha, not likely.

Dear UER,

Thank you for being there to listen to my venting about the roommate situation for the past 11 months. I'm seeing an apartment Friday that's available Sept 1st and is affordable and sounds great. If it checks out, then I will only have one more month here. Cross your fingers!!!

Love,

Julie

Did the guy actually tell you that they weren't planning on hiring anyone and that it was for the sake of HR? Maybe they didn't want to hire you because you weren't what they were looking for and started to make that vibe clear 10 minutes into the interview.

yes that is what he said after I called him on his bullshit. I've been in the industry a long time.. long enough to have been on both sides of the table. the job posting was likely customized for one specific person.. my old compnay used ot do that.. I just happen to also fit the bill, so legally they needed to interview me..
