Insurance Wars

So I get a call yesterday from GMAC Leasing looking for some updated information on my insurance and drivers license. I gave them what they needed to know and told them to speak with my insurance company for anything else they needed. Long story short, there was a mix up with some policy numbers between their information and mine and I was just informed that `technically i didn`t have insurance for a short period of time for the Hummer the quad and the trailer. So wtf who screwed up? I've had the same truck for almost 4 years, its only a few months from coming off of lease, it's been same insurance company for almost 7 years and i've been in Alberta for a couple years. What changed? I'm like well okay, fix whatever the fuck up is and lets get back to normal. Thanks for notifying me. She sends me to the quote department so they can quote my price..... you've got to be kidding me. So after a hold period the quote dude comes back with a price $300 bucks higher per year. They were charging me a gap in insurance premium LOL So I said the gap was your fault not mine, lets just put it back exactly how it was, no changes. Again same truck, same location, same company and i've got 15 years clean driving record....no claims, zero! If anything my premium should be going down every time I renew depending on the vehicle of course. After two managers calling me back over the course of 24 hours, during which I didn't drive, they agreed that i shouldn't pay the premium and that this was a case of doing what's right for the customer!

In the end they were very apologetic, rectified the situation and had a laugh about how occasionaly the system breaks down and the policies and rules and technicalities sometimes fuck a customer.

All is well that ends well but jesus.... what a silly pain in the ass thing to have happen

I just went through the same thing with Esurance when I switched to them from State Farm... apparently, State Farm was dragging its heels sending me the declarations on both the Beretta and the Cobalt SS. So, Esurance sends me a nasty gram saying that my coverage is going to lapse without that paperwork... so when I get my 2nd bill, it's almost $1000 higher than quoted because they stated I had a lapse of insurance. In NY, that's just about a felony and a HUGE fucking fine! I fly into an apoplectic rage. I called Esurance and got their customer service on the phone and told them that I cancelled my insurance the same fucking day I went with them... So we got my old agent on the phone on a 3 way call and worked it all out... i mean, it worked out ok, but for a few minutes, I was freaking out.

As far as i know, state farm never did send me that paperwork.

I understand how Corporate wheels turn (slowly) and that in these cases i'm just a client number on file and that the formula they punch in is what determines my fate.

The funny part was, they claimed they tried to phone me. I said on what number, and on what day. They told me..... using an old phone number. I asked if they had another number on file. She told me they did, and it was my current cell phone number. i asked what day they tried that one, they hadn't.
He's like well if we don't have your updated number how can we reach you? I said guess what....... you called me TODAY to tell me on that number. SILENCE
I could just see the little voice bubble above his head.... oh yah good point.

I have State Farm for insurance. My agent said to me directly: "Never call the 800 number unless you have an after hour accident report. Everything else call me directly!"

thats the best way to do things, but not all companies use agents and brokers.
I have a specific agent I use and he's the only person in the office i speak with
