I've always felt that a lot of the unintended acceleration crashes were caused by hitting the gas instead of the brakes. With this Toyota recall, it seems to be caused by people that want out of their financial duties.

I've read some of the testimony in front of the senate committee about the whole thing and some people claim they did try to put it into neutral but the PCM ignored it.

This is why i opt for cars made early 2000 or in the 90's. They are still fairly modern, but i can control every friggin thing the car does. If im not looking to seriously tune a car, anything 96 and up with OBDII is my choice. I can still find a lot of nice cars from these years.

Even without switching the trans to neutral, stock brakes on an appliance Toyota should be very capable of stopping the car even with a stuck pedal.

Absolutely true. I don't however want to eat at the brakes more than necessary.
