Maybe this is true in your country, but in much of the rest of the developed world science is publicly funded and many people seek knowledge for its own sake.
And I'm sure that some do lie for money - but that only succeeds where people are willing to believe what they are fed without question and are poorly educated in science. You would do well to have a healthy dose of skepticism in ALL areas of human endeavour. Percentage of americans that believe jesus will return by 2050: 40 Percentage of americans that believe Obama is a muslim: 18 Astrology: 29% UFOs: 34% Ghosts: 34% witches: 24% elvis is still alive: 8% In the united states only 14% of adults believe that evolution is definitely true. That figure rises to over 80% in the rest of the developed world. The only country that is less likely to believe evolution is Turkey - an Islamic Republic. You are living in a declining empire because of poor public education and people that are simply willing to believe unreasonable things. An as long as you opened the door, my horse only appears so high since you, sir, have arrived at a battle of the wits unarmed.
| HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, and no one ever lied for a Grant. Face it. Science is not this noble outstanding institution you like to think it is. Its full of bull shit like everything else bucky. Believe what you wish, drag out all the straw you can, but the fact is, YOU DON'T KNOW ANYMORE THAN I DO. Since the same material is available to both of us. I, unlike you, am willing to question science. Need I bring up Al Gore?

i agree. but peoples faith is not.
| why? i find faith insulting. I get pissed when my mother, who is catholic unfortunately, says that she is 'praying for me'. fuck that shit. you keep your fucking fairy tale to yourself because i view it as a mania, a sickness, a crutch for those who can't think for themselves. You know why sheep are a common theme in the bible? yeah, because they are dumb creatures that need to be led... maybe they should've used lemmings, it's a more apt description. i'm pissed off because this guy tekriter presented compelling arguments, BACKING THEM UP, mind you with facts and quotes, and predictably, the faithful respond like sheep bleating in the field... 'baah baah baah', coming up with nothing truly introspective or remotely compelling for an argument to support their bogus claims of being 'faithful'. it's this FLAMING IGNORANCE OF THE REAL WORLD that gets on my tits and makes me hate everything that fucking book stands for... you can't pick and choose shit out of it... you can't go ala carte when it comes to the bible. When you buy the bullshit package, you're getting the hate, the intolerance and the outright nonsense contained therein. So don't sit there are all pious behind your computers, smug with some weird faith, and tell people that science is not the answer. Next time you get sick, why not trying praying for a cure? or better yet, hire a faith healer... yeah, that'll get you far won't it.

| my mother... let's not open that can of cat food, shall me. She 110% contradiction on two feet. moving right along to the next item on my action list... when it comes to religion, ok, fine, where there is a disaster, yes they do help people that have been skullfucked by both fate and mother nature, so ok, there is some positive function there. but, why do these people NEED to push their faith, agenda and warped moralistic view on the rest of us who happen to think they're nuttier than a fruitcake? It's like god zombies looking to chew on my mind with their weirdness.

| real christians, or real devotees to any faith, dont force their beliefs on others. its the hypocrites that. the loudest most obnoxious ones are the ones we see. there was a thing i read once about human nature. if you hold the door for 100 people and 99 say thank you and 1 doesnt. you remember the 1 who didnt. its doesnt mean the 99 people were ungrateful or didnt say thank you. we just tend to remember the bad.

| | | You know what I find really funny? That a lot of those mystical alchemical theories, stuff like the "four elements" that seem so much like psuedoscience these days actually have analogs to modern scientific theories. I'll use the four elements as a for instance: The four elements from which everything was made were (in this order, ascending) earth, water, air and fire, and there is the ether in which everything takes place. The four states of matter are (levels of ascending kinetic energy) Solid, liquid, Gas and Plasma. Also, there's this invisible stuff that it turns out that most of the universe is made of called dark matter... It sounds a hell of a lot like some "pseudoscience" from 3000 years ago. I mean, it wasn't until relatively recently that fire was determined to produce this ionized gas state of matter we call plasma. There are a hell of a lot of examples of this in some strange sounding occult teachings. Whats this I hear about entanglement?

| You're absolutely right. The thing is, though, SCIENCE questions science. Otherwise it wouldn't be science. I do find it interesting that people who rag on science also enjoy its fruits. Like the Internet, the internal-combustion engine or not drinking out of the toilet.
