I don't watch it because there's too much douchebaggery going on. Old farts buying cars for well more than is reasonable.

If I want to see cool old cars, I'll go to the junk yard.

One of the original GM Futurliners used to live around here, and the guy who sold it was claiming it didn't sell for anything even CLOSE to what they showed on TV... not sure how true that is but he's a pretty respected collector.

Agreed, there is the odd car that rolls off the auction block for an arm and a leg, throw in your first born for good measure. Like Haymaker said, watch it for a few hours.... the prices are more then fair for the lions share. Some of the resto-mods and fully restored to original cars go for WAY less then could ever be built.

In my opinion, who cares what the cars sell for. Guaranteed if any one of us belonged to the more money then brains club, we'd have a collection like those guys do.
I say if you're a car enthusiast, watch it purely for checking out some pretty sweet ass rides....restored, original & custom. If you're concerned about what some "asshat" does with it, i suspect you might be just a bit envious.... I know I am.

it kills me because I can appreciate the car. It's a work of art, it's a piece of history... it's not a commodity to be traded like fucking baseball cards. That's what gets on my nerves.

I agree 100%. I could give 2 shits about the guys buying the vehicles. I watch it for the cars. The beautiful, classic, exotic and generally awesome cars.

I will say this though. The auction owners, their president (the douche who always wears sunglasses) and their employees get on my fucking nerves. They are on camera WAY too much. Constantly spouting off about how good they are. Nobody gives a shit. Just show us the cars!

It is... honestly, a good car or a car you like becomes part of you. I don't think I'd sell my little Bug for any amount of money in the world. Sounds stupid, but I mean it.

I'm not sure these guys are buying them as investments...atleast not the guys that are buying and already owning a whole collection of sweet rides. i'd wager that the guys who have enough cash to develop a collection are smart enough with money to know that very few cars appreciate in value.

There are a good many that buy cars they had growing up. I grew up with econo boxes, and that seems to be what I'm drawn to this day. I like small cars.

I still stand by my comment that there are more interesting hunks of iron in the yards than that auction.

i'd bet 100 bucks you've never met one of these guys you're terming as an asshole! So they have money and overspent on some rides that they really really wanted. When i'm sitting on 7 figures, i'm likely going to indulge in some guilty pleasures. That doesn't make someone an asshole

it makes you jealous in my mind

on the contrary, there are several that belong to the club i do... snobby motherfuckers.
one has a 70 Challenger 440-6pack/4 speed he tried passing off as "numbers matching"... it didn't take long for a Mopar guy (who has a sweet 67 Barracuda) to take the car apart with an astute eye.

another guy has a 68 Mustang GT... he never drives it. he winches it on to the trailer and pushes it off. Sickens me...
