This is that vehicle you found, maybe last week, maybe 30 years ago. You wanted it, you knew it was a good deal, or overpriced, but damm, it didn't happen. Low finances, no storage, needed too much work, other priorities...

Mine was a 1960's VW Type 34 Karman Ghia. This is the rare 'other' Ghia that was canned so the rounder one could make its epic contribution. Great car, both, but I prefer the T 34.

It was about 1990, early evening, headed to a friends for dinner, near SFU University in Burnaby, (Vancouver).

And there she was. Black, 800.00. That curved dash, the lines, greenhouse, the engine where God and Ferdinand intended, waaayy out back. Damn.

I've only seen one since, years ago, here on the island, also black, maybe the same car...

The pic says it all; I has a Jones for the T 34.

GORGEOUS.

My one that got away was a '66 Mustang coupe... 6 cyl, had just had all new sheet metal welded in, and done properly (quarter panels, trunk sheet metal and door skins), and it was totally complete. Even had the horse badge.

He wanted $300, and I ended up buying his '87 Daytona instead for the same price.

I'm not sure what the hell I was thinking.

And the one that REALLY got away:

My great grandfather was obsessed with Volkswagens to the point that he'd annoy people talking about them so frequently. His pride and joy was a right hand drive '54 Beetle convertible, which he bought new and had shipped to Jamaica, where he lived.

He died in the late 70's and the car sat in my great aunt's garage in Ft. Lauderdale until 2006... when she gave it away.

"I didn't want to trouble you with a drive all the way down here from Canada to get that old car."

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

She always reminisces about the Bug, and how it even still had the original "hubcap" toolkit mounted on the spare tire.

in 1997, i had a chance to buy my 80 Pinto back for $300 from the older couple that had it. I just couldn't come up with the money at the time and so it was sold to a punk from Crown Point NY that beat the fucker to death.

Blew the engine in my '86 Toyota 4Runner, and just didn't have the time or money to fix it...Ended up selling it, the guy dropped a new engine in, and it was back on craigslist 6 months later for sale again for $1,200. I just couldn't come up with it quickly, but the ad kept being reposted, so I saved. Right about the time I decided I'd sell my Jeep and use part of that money to buy my 4Runner back, I called the guy up and he'd sold it not an hour before I called.

I miss that truck.

When I was looking for a car back in High School I happened across a B4 Passat in blue with black leather interior and a 5-speed stick. My parents refused as I should "learn how to drive on an automatic before you add shifting gears into the mix."

I had the opportunity to buy one of these when I was 16 years old.

I bought a 1965 Mustang instead.

About 2 months ago, a friend offered to trade his 12 second 88 Mustang for my 90 300zx TT project that I havent started yet. 3 weeks ago the wife and i finally decided to go for it. 2 days prior to me calling to get it done, he traded the Mustang as a down payment on a 99 Saleen. Dammit.
