Well I bought another car. 1989 Festiva. Auto. Factory AC. Enough blow by to inflate a Macy's day float. Fuel injected which makes zero sense. 12" rims. Seems to run ok when not leaking all the oil. $250. Drove it 40 miles home with no problem yet. Why do I do these things. Meet Jerry Carcia.

such a BIG picture for such a small car. A friend of mind had one of these in high school. Nikki drove that thing like she stole it. Rot was the only thing that killed it.

I found one of those near an abandoned house (remember that hobby?) with the right front strut ripped out of the body. The thing is, I don't think I'd be able to get a dirt bike to where the Festiva was.

Yeah, I think the picture is life size!

Going tomorrow (fingers crossed) to look at a 1985 Mercedes 300D or SD with no rust and a turbo diesel that from talking to the seller runs perfect. Trans works perfect. Steers fine. And has newer tires. Only issue I see is it has 450k miles on it. Looks good from pics but paint is a little faded. They are asking $800 but I think I can work them down.
So who here can tell me why to run? What do I need to really look for on it? Turbo a problem area? They drive it daily and said the rear brakes are squeaky. Is this some oddball part situation that's gonna cost me a grand just for some brakes? Halp!!

Posted by jeepdave Got em down to $600 and bought it. Drove it 100 miles home. Aces so far except it likes to diesel lol.
Isn't that a good thing? It being a diesel and all.

Posted by Harvestman I think I've stated on here before that my guilty pleasure is a Festiva or Metro, just a simple car that's good on gas and can be thrown around a bit.
The aforementioned big issue seems to be rot. Also finding one that isn't complete junk.
The one I have has no rust. None. Couple dents tho.

Cool! I'm curious, though: what are the badges in the grill for? Are they 100k miles badges?

The diesel benz bring A LOT of money out here. Mine had 268k on it when I sold it and I got $4k for it. Granted it was in really nice shape and I did a bunch of engine work to it. That car is worth around the same even with that mileage here.
Hint Hint- A turbo off a wagon will liven it up just a little bit....

If I could get $4000 for it I would willing drive it there and sell it. Then fly back.
