not all of them are in it for the service. and not all tickets are justified... i've been around long enough to know that.
| you missed my point. "unsuccessful. Crawford and another officer were dispatched to the scene. Crawford arrived first. Police say Crawford was shot as he walked up to the suspect. "He had his notepad out in his hand. When the suspect turned around, he pulled a weapon out and fired a round at Officer Crawford," said Michael Kovacsev, with SPPD. "He fired three more rounds. He pointed at the officer's belly and hit Officer Crawford four times." Officers found four casings at the scene. Police say Crawford was able to return six rounds, but the suspect was not hit and fled. "We do know that he was able to break the perimeter before we could set that perimeter-- and get home," Kovacsev said. Police say the teen purchased the gun off the street for $140. "He did not wish to let us know who he purchased that firearm from," he said. Police say the teen alluded to ditching the gun in water after the shooting, possibly in a canal, and was adamant no one would find it. No motive has been released, but police said the teen indicated he was afraid of getting caught with the weapon. "You never know in the 16-year-old mind what he was going through," Kovacsev said. There were no witnesses to the shooting. Three tips led to the teen's arrest Tuesday night. It's unclear who, if anyone, will get the $100,000 reward, based on various criteria from different agencies who contributed to the reward. Police say the teen's parents did not know he had a gun. "They brought him down, they were instrumental in the interview process. They encouraged him to do what was right," Kovacsev said. "It was a tough time for them, I'm sure. They were very cooperative and at no point inhibited the investigation." Police say the teen appeared remorseful during his interview. "The fact was he did break down and cry, it was very upsetting, obviously, because he knew he took a life," Kovacsev said, "but he essentially probably will spend the rest of his in prison." The teen has been appointed a public defender and placed in secured detention. The Pinellas county state attorney's office says it intends on charging Lindsey as an adult, and schedule a grand jury to indict the teen." baynews9.com

| | | About a year ago there was a cop in my town driving at roughly 70mph in a 25 zone, while talking on his fon at 6am. He hit a woman pulling out from a side street in a Cadillac. Flipped the cruiser, threw him through the windshield (no seatbelt), and his brains were scattered for 100 yards, some across my good friend's front yard (literally had to power-wash blood off of his stairs). The guy's partner was strapped in and survived, and my friend said what woke him up was not the initial crash, but the woman police officer screaming.
They threw him a fucking parade.

Reminds me of the cops who were going on a joy ride and racing each other through a town center in their new cruisers and one of them crashed into another vehicle, killing the two young passengers inside. You know what pisses me off? That police are able to murder and brutalize people and get away with it. I'd say "ask Amadou Diallo" but you can't, he died after being shot at 41 times by undercover police officers on his front doorsteps. He was unarmed. What about Sean Bell? Oh yea, died after being shot at over 50 times (on the day of his wedding no less!). Also unarmed. All police involved in both incidents were acquitted of any criminal charges. What about the recent BART shooting where an officer shot a man point blank in the back? Two years jail time, whereas a normal citizen would have received up to 17 years. TL;DR? Police are in place to protect the interest of the state, not the people. Don't feel too bad that one got shot. And as for your point about getting a ticket... I totaled my car in a blizzard last year. Almost died. Ended up backwards in a ditch after my brakes locked up going around a corner on the highway. The state trooper who responded treated me like a criminal, yelling at me and making accusations as to why I must have crashed. He gave me a ticket for not respecting marked lanes, telling me that I "must have been driving like an asshole" because somehow my shitty 90s sedan wasn't able to stay on the road when his brand new police cruiser could. I ended up beating the ticket in court but still had to pay court fees and miss a day of work. That cop's bullshit ticket was not only adding insult to injury, but stole money right from my pocket.

| | | Yes, Sam. Not all cops are hearts and flowers heroes. My guess is that most are regular guys doing a high impact job. Their choice. I'm totally down with that. However, there are also LOTS AND LOTS of cops who would, in a heart beat, go the extra mile (or 1.609344 kilometers) to do the right thing. You've heard the cliche: when the cops fuck up, it's front page news. When they do good, it's not even news. I've been fucked over by my fair share of motherfuckers. But I've also seen what hard honest work, selflessness, courage and integrity can do. Cop killers are nearly as bad as child molesters. Anyone willing and able to murder a cop wouldn't hesitate to shoot...for example...my son. Or my wife. Or you. Or me. Whatever. You yanks have too many guns, and for all the wrong reasons.

| hey man, i don't disagree. One of my best friends is a local cop (been friends since high school). And I have been known to help the state troopers when need be... I'm just saying, though, that there is a growing number of these men and women that are not holding up the high standards of a profession that DEMANDS high standards. i mean, this thread has been hijacked, yes, but some things need to be said when the opportunity presents itself. I am truly sorry and do feel terrible for this guy and his family, but i don't think that the ENTIRE profession deserves the respect that this one individual does.

| | | Something to think about... Context... 2 nights ago we had a snow storm. I was at a friend's house, stoopin it up, having a beer and watching the snow fall. So, this guy who lives up the road comes out of his house... FLIPPING out. He was totally wacked out on PCP at 2AM in a not so savory part of town. I sat on teh stoop and watched the cops come out. They tried to talk to him but it was obvious he was wacked out and he had super human strength(from the drugzorz). So, of course, they beat the ever living shit out of him and then called an ambulance to cart him off. Had someone taped it, it would have looked like brutality, but I saw it first hand. They did nothing wrong and kept a lunatic from possibly turning on my friend and I. BTW, the cops even said hi to us after and did not give us any shit about drinking on the sidewalk. One even said " I think I deserve one of those after I get off"(pointing to my beer. So, what can seem brutal on video can, at times, not be what it seems. It sure was not in the case I experienced with my own eyes
