Investigation Reveals Depth of Chick-Fil-A's Ties to Anti-Gay Causes

When two Missouri organizations, the Clayton Chamber of Commerce and FOCUS St. Louis, decided earlier this month to cancel a presentation by Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy over his company's controversial affiliations, they made the right decision. Although Cathy has unequivocally denied being anti-LGBT and claimed that he and the company have "no agenda against anyone" and "will not champion any political agendas on marriage and family," Equality Matters research proves just the opposite. In fact, the company has strong, deep ties to anti-gay organizations like Focus on the Family and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and its charitable division has provided more than $1.1 million to organizations that deliver anti-LGBT messages and promote egregious practices like reparative therapy that seek to "free" people of being gay.

The matter grabbed headlines in January after a Pennsylvania Chick-fil-A restaurant sponsored a "traditional marriage" event by providing food to attendees of "The Art of Marriage: Getting to the Heart of God's Design." Cathy dismissed the controversy as a localized incident that was not indicative of the company's corporate culture. "In recent weeks, we have been accused of being anti-gay," Cathy said in a written statement. "We have no agenda against anyone. While my family and I believe in the Biblical definition of marriage, we love and respect anyone who disagrees."

Chick-fil-A runs 1,530 restaurants in 39 states and a company spokesperson said gross sales for 2010 will most likely top $3.5 billion, according to The New York Times.

Those groups just aren't specifically "anti-gay", they are anti-sin and promote morals. Sooooo horrible! They are just ideas, not law. No threat to the gay way of life, so who cares. It's their right to do whatever they want. Just as other companies have the right to support secular groups, but you don't hear me bitching about it.

Quit nitpicking and eat the chicken. Except on Sundays, which seems to be the only day I crave Chick-fil-a...

Yeah, as has been discussed here before, this is not new information. I have generally avoided them for more than 20 years because of their corporate giving. So, thanks for spreading the word and all, but if anyone doesn't know it, they probably don't care.

i posted a couple articles in the past and this is my third i think. each one is somewhat different i believe. if its the same news, ill have it deleted.

Whatevs. The point of your post seems to be that Chick-fil-A supports things that you don't agree with.

Some people don't have a problem with those things, and the company has a right to support them.

So, I'm just saying... it's not a surprise to most people that Chick-fil-A does that. For the most part, people who care about it already don't patronize them.

Please continue to educate and inform about things that matter to you, but this one is a little over saturated.

I am a huge gay rights advocate, but I am not going to get all bent out of shape bc some company donates to something I disagree with. So long as they do not donate to the KKK or Westboro Baptist Church, I'm pretty much fine with it.

I just repeat what's in the bible. There are things the human mind cannot understand or comprehend. Dont ask how, ask why. That will help you better understand the paradox you just described. the only one of those companies I do business with is walmart and that's only because I have to.

While popular in media, gay people do make up a very small minority. That said, the amount of people in the general populace who support full gay rights is also a general minority. So most of these companies have very little to lose in supporting non gay friendly causes. I have compromised on some things when it comes to gay rights (I feel anyone who wants to serve our country should be allowed to, altho the way it was changed was rather abrupt and may have been implemented better) and I feel government has no place in marriage at all.

Btw, I'm just stating these facts, I have gay friends, and never considered a gay person any different than anyone else. I don't treat em special or worse, they just like a different kinda porn than me.
