Figure this board needs some motivation! i was able to sell another project so the rebuild of the M37 begins! Got it in the garage today and got the old bed ripped off of it. Tomorrow the front clip and engine come off and out of it. Gonna get the engine off to the machine shop and the rolling frame will go in for sand blasting next weekend. Ill keep adding photos here as the project progresses. Ive got a goal of The 4th of June. The good guys car show is going on and it would be great to have its maiden voyage out to that gigantic show. Will be tough to make that deadline but should be doable. Heres some pictures of the bed removal from yesterday...

Well i put another few hours into it and have the front clip off of her as well as the windshield frame and the cab floor. Tomorrow the engine/trans comes out. If i feel like it the transfer case will as well. Im wondering why the engine is yellow but it IS a T245 since its got the bolt on oil filler neck. Someone must have had the engine out to rebuild once upon a time. Still no stuck bolts! I cant believe it! AND im being period correct with my choice of beverage 8) Heres some more pictures of todays progress....

Another nights progress! Got the engine and transmission out tonight and the engine partially ripped down. Pulled the head, manifolds, and valve covers and didnt find anything alarming. No ridge in the cylinders but they are really glazed. Valve guides are shot too. Heres some pictures of tonights progress, tomorrow the cab and transfer case comes out. Maybe the tank and steel lines if i feel like it

Take it slow and easy man! Dont rip out more than you care to remember! I do that all the time and find myself sitting on the net for hours trying to figure shit out.

well i took a night or two off but i have the engine torn down and ready to go to the machine shop. I didnt find much alarming except for a bunch of broken piston rings. At least one per hole. and all the bearings were completely down to coppers. No ridge in the cylinder walls so it must have been rebuilt at some point not to long ago. Looks like i caught it at the exact right time, no damage to speak of and looks like i might just get away with a dip, honing and reassembly.

Heard back from the machine shop today. The engine is bored .040 over and the cylinders do not need to be bored any farther. They are straight and well within tolerance. Crank journals are .020 down and will be fine with just a polish. Looks like i was loosing all my compression through the valves, it needs new valves, seats and guides. Im gonna go up there and talk to the machinist, i got quoted $900 bucks for the job which seems awful steep to me. Ive had 3 times the work done for the same price recently. That is also at least double what other shops quoted when i described what it needed. Its possible they quoted to reassemble the engine which i want to do myself, gonna have to go find out! Figured id try out another local machine shop and maybe it might have bit me in the behind this go around...

Im currently stalled trying to find someone to sandblast it for me. The original guy that was going to do it dropped off the face of the planet. Next steps are sandblasting, paint and re-assembly. Should go fairly quickly if i can find someone to just do the job and get the old paint off of it!

Don't make it another year before you post again.

Try the "Deuce and a half" group on FB. They have alot of folks on there who know where to get it done. The olivedrab.com site is also a good choice too...

That would be greatly appreciated! Most places have been quoting over $1000 bucks to do the sandblasting job which seems outrageous to me. let me know! It will not be another year until it is finished. It will be completed this summer sometime hell or high water!

Finally made some big progress on the M37 project! After damn near a year trying to find someone honest willing to do the sand blasting I finally found someone! I went up there to pick it up last Friday afternoon and got to talking to the guy, who promptly offered to do the paint work on it too! So it will come back here ready to be reassembled! Heres a few pictures of the naked frame and cab, no paint what so ever left on her!
