It has been five years since I last checked out the remnants of the CNoR line that ran through stephens Gulch.
Someone had told me of another car that was buried in the gravel pit section.
I knew of the one car that lay at the bottom of the gulch, but this other one I had/have yet to come across.
Stephens Mills road is a precarious dirt road dividing a conservation area on one side and on the other a gravel pit and the remains of the rail line.
the gulch is quite steep and hides the abutments and piers of what must have been an impressive rail trestle. The rail line was decommissioned in the thirties when the railway went broke and was sold to CN.
I happened upon the owners of the property while checking out the trestle and after apologizing for trespassing (i didnt know who owned the actual property)
We got to talking about the railway. I also asked him about the old car and he told me some interesting info on it. apparently it had been placed there to use as part of a pully system for a small ski hill using the cars engine to run the pully.
Leaving behind the trestle and car i ventured up stephens mills road. Many people use this road for off-roading and hikes but unfortunately also as a dumping place for household garbage and such. one pile that caught my eye consisted of old star trek video tapes. I guess they updated to DVD
Speaking of garbage, i knew of an old dump located in a Gully nearby and thought i would check it out as well
My best guess is it dates from when this land was farmed.with a mixture of very old garbage and some more recent stuff. Lots of interesting old bottles, toys, shoes and much more
On my way back out i walked thru the gravel pit in search of the other car but didnt find it on this day
Checked out an underpass that runs under the raised railbed.must have been for cattle when the property was farmed
A fun afternoon and it was good to get out in the fresh air1.
