ok so i have the worst idea ever.

in lieu a jack and jack stands i take and cut a groove in two 2x4's so they snug up around the lip under each side of the car.

then fork lift it a few feet off the ground onto a bunch of 4x4 cribbing stacked like a log cabin 4 stacks 2 foot sections of 4x4.


my thinking is that i save the money on a jack and can also get the car higher off the ground this way but i know it's a stupid idea.

I wouldn't worry about the groove, the cribbing should be fine if its flat and level. I have done FAR FAR worse, but that comes with the Jeep life and trail repairs. Stack your 4x4 side by side and crisscross it. = then 11

So you are saying you cant afford a jack and jack stands, but you can afford to own a car?

i have use of a forklift, and don't really want to but the jack and stands because i don't have a garage right now.

Jack stands will be cheaper than that much lumber.

Unless you already have said lumber. I have no issue with using different means to support a vehicle. Trust me, I'll take some 4x4 blocks of wood ANY DAY over some of those cheapy jackstands you can pick up cheap.

My Friend Nick's friend Charlie works at Harbor Freight and gets an incredible discount when items are labeled discontinued. So he has an entire pallet of the 1 ton bottle jacks in his garage he got for like 50.00. We have like 10 of them holding up his Ford Bronco he's converting to a off-road only rig.
