Seeing as I am not brand loyal, what would you, my friends in gasoline, for a FWD dirt track car. Thinkin about running at the local track, and thats the cheapest class to enter in. Rules are it must be 1980 or newer, its gotta stay pretty much stock with an exception to safety. No 4 wheel steerin, all wheel drive, or HF22A Hondas or some shit like that. Oh, and must be a 4 banger. I'm actually considering a Caviler, but what yall think. Went to the track to night and saw some Saturns of all things tearin it up. Couple Hondas runnin out there were not running to well up in the pack. And a Eclipse was doing ok when he could keep it runnin straight for more than a couple laps. Of all things,a Mercury Mystique was running in the front, and better than I would have ever thought.

So, if ya was gonna run the dirt in a FWD, which would it be?

Either a 2nd generation Honda Prelude Si with the 2.0 fuel injected motor or a Cavalier with an Ecotec motor. I know a few people through 3geez.com that race Preludes and 3rd gen Accords and do pretty well with them.

Oh man, awesome. I'd love to do that.

I know nothing about what would be best for it, but a lot of the ones I see are Berettas.

for a dirt track, you'd want the pushrod 2.2L in a Cavalier/Sunfire. The power comes on better in the dirt and you're not as prone to understeer (at least in my xperience) as the DOHC engine. Also, you lunch a 2.2L OHV and they're like $100-$200 from a salvage yard. The 2.2L DOHC is a bit pricier. Also, you smack the car up, these cars are still EVERYWHERE and CHEAP!

I agree with Sam. The more Cavalier and Sunfires that are wrecked and crushed, the more we dont have to see on the streets. Plus they are inexpensive like he stated.

I used to run an '89 Tercel on a clay oval, and kicked ass with the thing. Ran a slightly larger diameter tire on the outside of the car.

cavalier / sunfire would be a good option as there is a large amount of wrecked ones available. You dont want something thats going to be difficult to find parts for in the yards. You want to make it easy and cheap
