After many experiences online dating, I had the best luck finding my husband in person. Everyone is different, some people swear by online dating. I will say my worst experience was a guy whom I met on okcupid who was borderline suicidal and when we had our first date, at the close of it, he cried that I was leaving and wouldn't stay the night, he threatened to kill himself. As I sped away looking in the rear view mirror, I always wondered what became of him.

Edit: I didn't know he was borderline suicidal when we spoke online or on the phone, he seemed "normal"

I don't judge women by their dress size.

i think my girlfriend showed me a pic of that red dress girl on facebook... if I'm not mistaken she is one of those people who adds everybody as friends or something... I dunno for sure though because I dont have facebook.

Back to online dating websites, I have never been on one but as an outsider who has only heard about them I always assumed they ran you through these criteria matching engines etc... basically, dont they match you up with potential dates by things you have in common etc after completing a sort of exam? And, how well do you guys find they work for if nothing else.... finding interesting people (ie: maybe not a date strictly)

I am just curious how well those work.

you're thinking along the lines of e-harmony or some of the other paid sites. The free ones such as pof, okcupid, (parts of) lava-life are free - but you have to wade through all the trash yourself. Some of them have little personality tests you can take and they'll match up your scores for you but it's nothing 'serious' like when e-harmony runs all of your responses through some magical program that's designed to tell you who to spend the rest of your life with.

Since you've all shared horror stories, I'm going to tell you how I met my best friend (a not-horror story)
Met on POF - met in person in video game store where I bought something, went to movie where he talked loudly -.-' He dropped me off at my gym but I forgot my purchase in the car so ten minutes later I'm training with a room full of very built men and thin, awkward date is standing in the door-frame holding my game.
The guys all laughed when they saw him and he just stood there and said 'you left this with me' and I kissed him when I took it from him. Shut everybody up pretty fast. We decided we were better as just friends and spent a lot of time together and talking online - and now he's one of the most important people in my life. I'm thankful I gave him a shot. At one point after we were really good friends I fell for him pretty hard but he didn't reciprocate and I got over him, then he fell for me. HAHA that always seems to happen to me. Anybody else get that? You're really good friends and then you both have feelings but not at the same time?

PS- now when he talks at movies I shove popcorn in his mouth. problem solved.

i have a p.o.f. account, never check it.... never really tried online dating, but i did meet a girl from myspace.com. "today is the first day of the rest of your life, have coffee with me." i sent her. wicked sex in 10 hours after coffee... we lived together for 6 or 7 months after that. we are still friends to this day.

as Ms. Behaven just reminded me... E-HANGER.com worked out!

added funny pic.

And just my personal thoughts - that extra curvy girl in the picture may be nekkid (which I don't really need to see) but she looks like she has gorgeous skin.

I just deleted my POF account recently,
due to lack of success and loads of just absolutely mentally unstable men.
With one he seemed normal, we decided to be friends and see what happened from there, and the guy saw me after logged into POF still and absolutely lost it (note: we were only talking about a day and never met). Kept calling my house and shouting about how crazy and stupid I am etc. Eventually I had to tell him if he continued I would be calling the police. he must have called and texted me about 50 times in an hour. Scariest part of that is after I told him to stop or I would contact the police He started sending me very friendly texts saying how sorry he was. It's like textbook abuse.

no more giving out cell number.

Plus I met my ex there and he was a fucking emotional train wreck.

Oh and people would always call me hun. I hate that.

Omg, and I just remembered this totally bizzar dude. We were playing super smash bros brawl in his dorm which ok was fun then he was like "look at all my trophies" ok whatever... he then proceeded to add a goofey blurb about EVERY trophy he ever got in that game. Some thing along the lines of "ooh look at me I'm Mario and I'm a cool guy I save peach" x500 for like 2 hours. And then after asked if he could rub my back. Fuck that. I said I had to go. And as I left he tried to kiss me. I didn't let him.

Pretty standard. Guy showing off his "cool stuff" which is of little or no interest to women.

I learned that lesson a while back. I then shifted to showing off cool stuff women might actually be interested in.

There have been a few notable exceptions where women did want to see my radio stuff, my antique truck and/or tractor; but generally no. I tried to determine what they were interested in before the first meeting.

There's also baking a cake which has the taste and consistency of a cinderblock. Then try to get a "let's cook together" date for the next meeting.

When I joined okcupid, I quickly learned NOT to give my number out to people during first contact, and to ignore anybody who asked for it. I now have a folder in my phone of random penis pictures... Also, lots of begging for me to send my pic, and to come over and cuddle for the night.

I do have to say, even though I deleted my OKCupid, I did meet two really sweet men who I consider good friends now.
