There's some unworthy crap on the list (ie, Ford Econoline, Corolla XRS, Saab SUV GM thing), but meh...

Is it bad that I think an older Econoline with a chopped top would be a cool car? Might have to take a section out of the body, too.

Exactly. And the Corolla XRS had a Celica engine. OH MY GOSH. That generation of Celica was about as quick as a sack of potatoes.

At least the Caravan and its car-like steering made the Turbo quite fun

Still can't hide that it's a K-Car underneath.

Oh wait, that means they can be updated to fairly fresh hardware and use some fairly recent motors. Crap.

A whole whopping 170hp! Fuck, the F250 Super Duty I drive for work accelerates faster than the 9th Gen XRS (someone at work has one, and yes, we race the trucks against cars). Can't corner for shit, but it's a fucking crew cab pickup... whadda ya expect?

Hell, even the 1ZZ-FE with the TRD supercharger will beat out the 2ZZ-GE.

And I do plan on one day putting the TRD supercharger in my Corolla, if only for shits and giggles.

I had a 5 speed Caravan Turbo... loved it a lot.

I also had a '91 Caravan with the 3.0... put the 3.3 liter throttle body on it, a cold air intake, opened up the exhaust and put Daytona 15" alloys on it (with low pro tires... hehehe). It was a bit silly, but it was AWESOME for embarrassing ricers with. And it'd tow anything.

I had the Cold Air Intake on my '95 Caravan with the 3.0 and that was fun for me.

Ooo...there's an evil thought....I wonder if there is room in the 2nd gen Caravan to drop in an AMC 242...

Yes, between the seats, like a Previa. Set it up for RWD while you're in there.

But why?

edit- I know they're reliable and all... but beyond that? Just don't see the appeal of it.

Pretty much any inline 6 can be made to make insane power for not a ton of money. Heck, early 90's Ford trucks, you were better off with the inline 6 than the small V8. The power was similar, the torque was similar, but the V8 drank more fuel. Down here, all of the old Ford farm trucks are inline sixes for a reason.
