Field day!

Went up to my mountain "perch" to plug into my tree antenna's after work today. Have worked 20, 40, and 80 meters so far, over 70 contacts in a couple hours. Working 1-B in BC. Anyone else do anything?

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

If you hear, K7RLG, K7LTA, or N7YDI, those are my friends out in Eastern Oregon at some big ranch for field day.

I operated 20 & 40 CW with one of the local clubs. It would be fun to get some explorer-hams together and do it from an abandonment sometime.

VHF regularly..IRLP UE..just ask Skelly!

HF UE would be great. I am working on getting a Yeasu-817 variant to use with my Outbacker (currently on my mobile). Skelly and I will be doing LOTS of DX when he gets here in just over a month. I may set up my Cushcraft R-7, and bring my IC735, and my 150Ahr Ni-Cads at his campsite for fun!

Naw, P25 is so long as it's on a ham band.

IRLP doesn't use RF, so it isn't ham radio. It's ham internet

Cool. I was thinking of a FD operation from an abandonment. Probably would have to be an industrial place with high points to hang antennas. I'm actually going to try and get permission for a place I have in mind for next year in Buffalo. It would be hard to operate using a generator in most places without permission, but you could run QRP off batteries without making a lot of noise.

I'm also into DX'ing - It's my main activity on the air now as well as DX CW contests. I have 322 countries worked from the ARRL DXCC list but it took a long time to get there. It helps if you can operate CW, since CW pileups are easier to crack than SSB pileups. If you're trying to work new countries, the WARC bands - especially 12 & 17 meters - will be great as the current sunspot cycle nears it's peak. There's less people using beam antennas on those bands so it's easier to compete if you don't have one. Those bands don't require a lot of power either.

It isn't Ham Radio unless all of the following criteria are met:

1) You have no life.
2) You have no girl/boy friend.
3) You're using a radio that smells like cat urine that you purchased at a ham fest from someone who smells the same.
4) The radio has at least one tube.
5) You know what a pentode, triode, grid and dip are.

Oh, the life of a LID. Here's an interesting troll-fest, from the 14.313 crowd. I regularly listen to the antics. I even drive by Karols house when down island, telling him, "One day Karol, imma cut your coax". Good laughs when the DX isn't very good.

"Field day disgrace".

I guess the 1 percenter rule applies to radio too.

Sounds like my old Yaesu FT-101E. Bought it cheap at a hamfest but it wasn't too bad and I got a couple good years out of it before I sold it and bought something else.

I didn't read the whole thread but the story seems a little odd. That's a rare thing to happen during FD but I guess it could. If it does, turn the big knob and move on. Probably a shock to the newbie but they have learn about the 1 percenters sometime.

I've never really listened on 14.313 so I dunno what goes on there. Seems like I've heard of that freq before tho.

Anyone making Field Day plans yet?

I hope that one of the clubs in my area picks a place where I can camp out overnight this year.
