| | | Posted by Ashes in the Snow This location has super potential for an amazing model shoot, but your model was super awkward in the pictures. If she is that self conscious... she probably shouldn't model :/ She is obviously tense in each shot and just does not look comfortable at all.. in fact, I kind of feel bad for her looking at the pics. Nothing wrong on your part or anything, but she may want to get a little more self confidence and try again. |
Thanks for the feedback. This was the first time that either of us had done a planned shoot, and it was done on short notice, and we didn't have as much time as we'd have liked, because she had to get home to go to a movie with another friend, so all of those might have contributed to any awkwardness that's evident in the photos. I'm sure that she'll be more comfortable with herself during the next shoot, and I'll be able to direct her better, and we'll have more time.

| One of the hardest things to learn as a model photographer is the ability to direct a model. Especially if it's an experienced model and you aren't that experienced in model photography. You def have to build the confidence, but with time this will come. I remember when I started out I was almost scared, but thank God I worked with some wonderful girls. Also, when it comes to wardrobe, think of your location... for instance, in this set, I might have gone with some torn up jeans and a tanktop on the girl or something with a little more attitude.

| | | Guys, thanks for the advice. The outfit was her choice. We were originally going to do two outfits for the shoot, the other a little edgier/sexier, but like I mentioned, we had less time than we'd wanted. Personally, I think that 1 and 2 worked, though maybe not as well as they could have, e.g. too much foreground in 1, because the idea was that she was waiting for a train that was never going to arrive, and those were almost as much about the location as they were about her. I do get what you're saying about the height, which is why I tried getting some shots from the track level. Unfortunately, none of them came out particularly well, hence why I haven't posted them. I thought about doing some of the shots while down on a knee, but didn't think that it was necessary. In retrospect, I should have tried it. I also thought about the rule of thirds, but not until I reviewed the photos a couple of days afterward. I'll keep these things in mind during the next shoot, and I'll run it by her and see what she thinks. Thank you again.
