From DIVAMONKEY:
I've come seeking help with an event that is very dear to my heart.
As some of you already know, I lost my son - Sawyer - just one year ago from a congenital heart defect. He was just two days old, and died in my arms.
His death changed me. And the support we received from the hospital where our son was born, led me down the path that I am on today.
Last year, we held Chicagoland's only remembrance walk for families that have suffered the loss of a baby. Sadly, resources for grieving parents are scarce. Many hospitals have cut bereavement support programs completely and there is often no place to turn for much-needed support.
We are once again holding "A Walk To Remember" this year, and are proud to have partnered with a local non-profit organization - Angels of Hope - where all walk proceeds will be donated. Angels of Hope helps families who have lost a child with financial assistance for burial costs, provides financial assistance to families who cannot afford the high cost of fertility treatments and they have even taken on a project in our son's name - Sawyer's Heart Project - where we deliver memory boxes to parents at local hospitals who have just lost a baby.
Long story short - times are very tough and we are relying on donations to our silent auction to make this year's walk a success. I know there are so many talented and crafty people out here and we would be honored if any of you would want to donate an item to our auction or even support the walk with a small monetary donation. I can email or snail mail a sponsorship form your way and all you have to do is fill it out and send it back along with a donation. All donations are tax-deductible as well.
If you've read this far, thank you. And thanks to everyone here who has been so supportive toward me and my family during the darkest time of our lives. We're just happy that in some way, Sawyer is going to make the lives of other grieiving families a little easier to bear. Thanks everyone...
